Shops

General

Elliott was a bit testy for most of the morning today. Nothing very big in terms of bad behaviour, but quite a lot of not listening and procrastinating when having breakfast, getting dressed, etc. In the end it culminated in a time out at lunchtime because he was not sitting properly, not eating properly and began banging the table with cutlery. I gave him a few warnings and a count which was delivered with an explanation that if he didn't stop banging after 3 he'd have a time out. The time out itself was the kind that lasted 30 minutes, but I stayed very calm and patient and in the end he gave up and did a proper time out and also explained what he'd been doing wrong. After the time out and some cuddles and general "that's done now, lets get going" he was brilliant for the rest of the day.

Also, just to let you know, unfortunately I've left his Cars school bag at home by mistake. This is a mistake and I am sorry to forget this. It only has a few toys in it but it was an error and an oversight. Fortunately one of the reasons I can't do Saturday is that in the early evening before the poker night Mum and Dad are visiting for a meal with me and Andrea so they can bring it up with them now and I can make sure it goes back with him on Tuesday morning. But in the interim I apologise for any problems caused.

Activities

We spent the morning playing at my parents house. As described he was quite restless and didn't really concentrate on anything for any period of time, although we did play shops for a while with Granny and that went down really well and for quite a while.

In the afternoon we came back to Reading and he watched Cars 2 and played some Sonic racing in the car. When we got back we did some winding down with some reading, car mat games and some Justin's House and he had a brilliant bed time.

Clowning about with Harry and Noah Higgins

General

Elliott was mainly good toady although he did have a couple of stroppy moments in Clownabout. However he did apologise for each of them in the end and was acknowledging he was being naughty.

Activities

We spent the morning at Clownabout soft play with Harry Higgins and Noah Higgins. In general Elliott was really good and played really well with Harry - lots of chasing each other around and trying the same slides / ball pits, etc. Noah is a bit smaller but they were both gentle with him when they did interact and it was good fun. Just a few moments where I think he was possibly a bit over excited from rushing about where he was a bit stroppy (e.g. he didn't want to share his biscuits with Harry initially).

In the afternoon we watched some Wipeout (hilarious), did some playing with cars, some reading and went to the park in Downton on the balance bike with Granny and Grandpa.

Cars 2 Treasure Hunt

General

Elliott was good all day and no sign of any tummy problems or illness.

Activities

In the morning we went shopping to Salisbury for a bike for Elliott's birthday with Granny and Grandpa. In the end we ordered a Ben 10 bike that he was very taken with and seemed to really enjoy riding when we tested it (it comes with stabilisers). We also had a look around some other shops and had some coffee / Fruit Shoot.

In the afternoon we visited Charlie and Poppy Sladen. Lots of playing with Cars 2 cars and other boys toys. Also Poppy devised a treasure hunt based on Cars 2 for the boys which was really good fun and very creative and I think he really enjoyed it - there were maps with each room of the house a different character's den and clues for items in each room. The prize was some chocolate!

Monday 23 January 2012

Elliott was good all day though unfortunately having helped me cook pancakes a lunchtime (sieving, stirring, etc) he then decided he didn't like them without trying. I normally play that situation by ear, so sometimes he'll be persuadable to have a mouthful, but others like today his mind seems very strongly made up and I don't want to push it and make mealtimes into a battle ground - have some personal experience with that! Anyway I'll try pancakes again sometime soon but maybe re-brand them as something else initially.

Activities

We spent the morning in the house playing and doing some more creative things, plus some alphabetting.

In the afternoon we went to Coral Reef for a swim which was really good fun. He also played a bit of Sonic on the iPad (did download it) and was pretty good at it (better than me).

Back to central swimming pool

Elliott was good for most of the day but did play up a bit when we went shopping and before bedtime. When we went shopping I had a few quick bits and pieces to pick up and the deal was do that, then have an afternoon bic in the cafe and then go scootering. Unfortunately he decided he wanted to change the order so started pulling at my coat and basket while we were shopping. In the end we had an impromptu time out in the cafe and got back on track, but he wasted so much time that scootering was only brief in the end. He seemed to understand this had been because he had been silly earlier. The trouble before bedtime didn't last as long but he was silly over stories and which ones he wanted - so I left the room for a bit and when I came back he was a bit upset and soon chose his stories properly.

Activities

We went back to central pool for swimming in the morning so it was old school with a float and I think he really enjoyed this.

In the afternoon we went shopping and scootering (see above).

Monkey Mates with Milly

General

Elliott was very good all day with the only hint of a strop coming when it was time to leave Monkey Mates, but he quickly realised Milly was leaving too and so calmed down.

Activities

We spent the morning in the house playing and relaxing. We watched some television (mainly Wipeout), read some books, played with some cars and did some alphabet recognition.

In the afternoon we met up with Dave, Milly and Elsie Allen at Monkey Mates soft play in Wokingham. This was an absolute blast and he went on the fastest and longest slide for the first time ever (with me). Him and Milly were getting on really well, the only slight problem being he was a bit too quick and energetic for her even though she's a year older!

Roundabout

General

Elliott was good all day today. A couple of times he started looking like he might throw a strop because he didn't want to do what I was asking, but a mixture of explanation and incentive managed to move him forward on these occasions.

Activities

We went to Reading in the morning where we visited Waterstones and the library. We did a lot of reading! We also had a quick look in some other shops with toys and had a go on the roundabout in the middle of town for children which he really enjoyed.

In the afternoon we went to The Look Out where Andrea joined us for about an hour and a half. We did some playing outside in the adventure playgrounds and then went inside for tea. He was really good and didn't seem phased by Andrea at all and they seemed to be getting on really naturally as with any other friend I've introduced to him. Basically it was all really easy and not big dealy. Andrea and I kept any physical affection to a minimum but we did display some when we said hello and goodbye as think it is best for him to know from the start when someone is a bit more than a friend for me - but also think that can be introduced quite slowly and subtly.

Coral Reef

General

Elliott was really good today, so very grateful for your work dealing with naugtiness the day before.

Activities

We went shopping in the morning and also did some running around.

In the afternoon we went to Coral Reef, Braknell swimming and had a really good time. Lots of laughing and fun and his swimming with arm bands is getting really good, lots of leg kicking and splashing. He's still a bit afraid there sometimes of the more shower based features, but at one point he did get splashed and found it funny so I that was good.

Wildlife at Theale

General

Elliott was naughty getting dressed again today - it took him about 25 minutes to put on his final sock and in the end I resorted to a time out to get him to put it on. Other than that he was really good today.

Activities

We went to a nature reserve in Theale around a lake for a walk just before lunch. This was really good and he was quite interested in some of the wildlife - particularly some kind of bird of prey that was hovering really close to us at one point before it dived into the undergrowth to catch something. We also went past quite a few dogs during our walk and he was quite relaxed about them, apart form one really big dog, but that was quite scary looking.

After the walk we went for lunch in big Sainsburys and he was really good. Then we had a quick look around Sainsburys before heading home where we played and watched the Cbeebies Cinderella panotmime. We also did some alphabet practice, with E featuring a lot.

Look Out it's 2012

General

Elliott was really good all day today.

Activities

In the morning we went to The Look Out and did indoor exhibits and outdoor playgrounds. It was really good - nice and quiet - and Elliott made friends with another boy about his age - Oliver. He was playing with him really nicely and at one point taking it in turns with him to jump on the coloured lights.

After lunch we played at home - lots of different games including snap, cars and some catching.
