Daddy's birthday

General

Elliott was really good all day today, although in the morning I think he felt like he needed a poo but wasn't able to go a couple of times which seemed to make him a bit upset. However as soon as he had been he was much happier again.

Activities

In the morning we went out for a bit and did some scootering.

Then at lunchtime we went for a meal with Granny and Grandpa.

After lunch we went to a family friendly pub with Graham, Tim and Emily Chandler and Tim Fawcett and his girlfriend and he was really good. We managed to play some football, rugby and pool.

Wrapping presents

General

Elliott was really good all day today and got dressed very quickly and nicely when asked this morning!

Activities

In the morning we went last minute present shopping in Salisbury and Elliott was really good - except he found it really difficult to keep the presents Granny was buying secret from me.

In the afternoon we went scootering along the Salisbury Town Path to Elizabeth Gardens playground and when we got home Elliott helped me wrap presents and put them under the tree which was very Christmasy and exciting.

Bird feeding

General

Elliott was quite naughty this morning. It started with him refusing to get dressed for a long time - this was resolved by a time out. However after that when it was time to go out he then took ages putting his coat on, so in the end, after being warned consistently, he stayed behind with Grandpa while Granny and I went to the shop (it was only a quick trip). However on returning he was sorry and then was really well behaved for the rest of the day.

Activities

In the morning Elliott played with Cars toys, watched some Peppa Pig and also we practiced writing the letter E. When he stayed behind with Grandpa he helped Grandpa feed the birds and clear the fire.

In the afternoon we went to Hengistbury Head for some scootering during which he scootered for a very long way.

Christmas Tree decorating

General

There was one incident today with Elliott at tea time when he was deliberately spinning around on his chair despite being asked not to a number of times. This was resolved by explaining he wouldn't get any cake for dessert if he didn't behave which led to him sitting still and properly.

Activities

In the morning Elliott helped decorate the Christmas Tree which was really good fun and he seemed to enjoy. He also helped me clean my car, but he seemed less excited by this.

In the afternoon we went scootering as well as lots of playing and fun.

Christmas story time

General

Elliott was good for the whole day today.

Activities

In the morning we went to Wokingham library for Christmas story time. This was two ladies reading Christmas books and leading some songs as well while the participants sat on a rug listening and singing. There was also colouring in. Elliott really enjoyed this and warmed up very quickly after being slightly shy.

Then we went to Downton and in the afternoon we played lots and also did some reading. Unfortunately one of his Christmas presents fell out of the bag in the car so I let him have this early and we played with that - it was an indoor croquet set which he seemed to enjoy. Also Elliott hadn't seen Grandpa for ages and was pleased to see him and wasn't shy at all.

Crystal Palace dinosaurs

General

Elliott was good for the whole day today although when it was time to leave Billy and Crystal Palace he was a bit upset to be leaving Billy.

Activities

In the morning we played indoors with Billy for a few hours after a good night's sleep. They both interacted brilliantly and shared toys and talked a lot and were generally really good.

Then late morning we went to Crystal Palace park where we did some scootering and tricycling and playing on the playground there. Also it was exciting to see the big stone statues of dinosaurs there.

After lunch and leaving we dropped in to my old house mates house in Wokingham where they were having a Christmas gathering and he was brilliant. He was a bit shy at first so we sat away from the sofas a bit and had a lolly to eat - but after a while he started talking to people and then playing football and showing them Buzz Lightyear. We stayed for about an hour and he became really sociable which was brilliant to see.

Ball games

General

Elliott was good for the whole day today with no strops.

Activities

In the morning we played with Tom Bell who was staying over - we went to carols the evening before. This mainly consisted of ball based games (football, catch, etc).

Then after lunch we went to visit Chas, Elaine and Billy and had a great time playing with Billy and his toys (including a great Chuggington set that looks a bit like the one Santa Claus is bringing).

Elliott and Billy were really good at bed time having a bath together and then settling down quickly for stories and bedtime and being really good.

Puzzle skills

General

Elliott was good for most of today, apart from a strop around 4.30pm as we had to go to corner shop to get more milk, but he didn't want to leave his trains. In the end he responded to a count to avoid a time-out, but in lead up he had kept promising he was about to get ready before finding "one more" thing he wanted to do before getting ready.

Activities

In the morning we went scootering and watched a Justin's house.

In the afternoon we stayed in and did a lot of playing with balls, trains and puzzles as the weather started to deteriate. His puzzle skills are very impressive.

Friday 9 December 2011

Sleepover with Milly

General

Elliott was good for the whole day today with no strops.

Activities

In the morning we finshed building the racing car and also made a puppet so it was very arts and crafty!

In the afternoon we travelled back and went to see Milly and Elsie. Lots of play and fun before normal bedtime, and he settled really well. Dave read him his last story and I left the room to help him get used to the idea of sleeping in someone else's room (he was in Milly's bed and she was on a little made up temporary bed). He seemed very happy and they both went to sleep pretty quickly which I was surprised at, but very glad of. And Dave text a few times during the evening to say they hadn't stirred so think it all worked out quite well. Suspect if they were a bit older might not have been quite the same though and probably more shenanigans rather than sleep!

Racing car

General

Elliott was good for the whole day today, except after tea he had a very strange strop. Basically he wanted a yoghurt, but there was a yoghurt in front of him. It got quite strange. I think it began because he wanted to eat his "yog-pot" in the lounge in front of the television which isn't allowed. But then he sat back at the table and was about to eat his yoghurt when he started getting really upset. It took a while for him to calm down, but it was strange as he was saying he wanted a "yog-pot" but all I could do was point out that there was, in fact, a "yog-pot" in front of him waiting for him to eat. I did quite a lot of cuddling and distracting. In the end we went upstairs for a bit and when he came back down he had his yoghurt and all was fine.

Activities

In the morning we starting building a racing car we saw the methodology for on Mister Maker. This involves an empty Heroes box, some milk bottle tops (for wheels) and various bits and pieces. This morning we painted all the bits and he really got into the painting. We also did more Christmas Card colouring and lots of playing.

In the afternoon we went to soft play in Salisbury with Granny which was really good fun. Also we did lots more playing and some exploring in the dark with a torch (inside with lights off).

Jack and the Beanstalk

General

We did have a time out today for not eating properly at lunchtime. This actually escalated a little, but I held firm and eventually he gave in and said sorry. After that he was perfect.

Activities

In the morning we went to Salisbury and picked up some logs from a garden centre which he really enjoyed looking around. We also went to the big toy shop by Waitrose and he was very well behaved only "looking at things in his hands".

In the afternoon we went to the Playhouse to see Jack and the Beanstalk. It was really good, quite old school pantomime (no big stars) but really well done. He really enjoyed it and was totally engaged with it all the way through. He joined in with the shouting a little bit (less so than Fireman Sam or Thomas suspect) but he knew what was going on and afterwards talked lots about Jack, the giant and the fairy (the fairy was his favourite). He didn't seem scared and there were some pyros going off right in front of us when the fairy came on and the shouting did get pretty raucous (there were 3 schools in) so hopefully that bodes well for the big Mr Tumble panto. Anyway it was really good and he was brilliantly behaved, especially compared to lots of the school children in the row besides us who, despite being about 5 years older, apparently couldn't sit still for over 3 minutes!

Beach scootering

General

Elliott was good all day today.

Activities

In the morning we went to a soft play near Hurn and then on to the beach at Bournemouth. On the beach we did some scootering, some on the walkways besides the beach and some actually on the sand, which was hard work!

In the afternoon we did some more Christmas card colouring and then we went to the Sladens for tea which was good fun as ever. Elliott was really well behaved and played really well with Charlie and swapped a toy with him at the end with no fuss at all which was brilliant to see.

Christmas colouring

General

Elliott was a little naughty today when we were out shopping in Southampton. Basically he was hopping everywhere and when I asked him to walk properly he didn't and seemed very willful about not doing so. We had a time out and still he was hopping so we went back to the car to cut the trip short. At that point he started walking properly again.

Activities

We went shopping in Southampton in the morning.

In the afternoon we did some plasticine moulding and coloured in some Christmas cards as well as normal playing with toys and puzzles.

Balloon football

General

Elliott was good all day and I have noticed he is eating really well at the moment.

Activities

We spent the morning playing with toys and puzzles again. However we also went to Tescos quickly and to the park for scootering.

In the afternoon we got the Scalectrix out and also played football with a balloon for ages, which was really good fun.

In the evening before bed we used some alphabet cards for letter recognition, but also to make up our own stories.

Christmas shopping

General

Elliott was good for most of the day, but when we got back from shopping in the afternoon he was sulky for a while because he couldn't play with toys that were bought for him for Christmas - which is understandable. He did move on quite fast though.

Activities

We spent the morning playing with toys and puzzles. We did some alphabet recognition with Gruffalo cards and played snap with these as well. We also watched some CBeebies.

In the afternoon we went to Salisbury shopping and he was really good. I also had my hair cut but price for him was still £5 so I thought it best to leave it for pre-school hair dresser, because if it's going to cost probably better in the more familiar environment of pre-school to begin with.

When we got home he was a bit cross to begin with as we'd bought some presents for him and he wanted to play with them, but he did understand and calm down quickly.

Super slide

General

Elliott was good all day today. Some talk of new brother / sister but as you said due to Christmas play songs I think he might well be a bit confused as there was talk of you having Jesus in your tummy!

Activities

In the morning we went shopping.

In the afernoon we went to Dinton and then another park near Winnersh on the way to tea with Dave and Milly. This park had a brilliant slide, little spiraled that he really enjoyed. Tea with Milly and Dave was also a lot of fun.

Lots of singing again today.

Monday 21 November 2011

Torch

General

Elliott had a naughty morning today after breakfast and so had a time out for repeatedly not listening and not getting dressed. He was very stubborn during this time out and it took a long time. Other than that though he was good all day and his voice is almost back to normal. A few coughs and sneezes but not too bad.

Activities

We shopping in Reading in the morning and looked at toys for Christmas and bought a torch for Gruffalo hunting. We also did more jigsaws, some train tracking and a small bit of French, though he was not keen.

After lunch we did some Nativity Play singing and then went to Goring where we walked a little up the Thames Path with the torch hunting for Gruffalos.

Gruffalo hunting

General

Elliott was good all day today apart from being a bit reluctant to eat sausages at Dave and Jo's house. He was also sick soon after he woke up this morning, but had no temperature and was fine after this for the rest of the day.

Activities

We went scootering and shopping in the morning as well as watching some Justin's House, doing some jigsaw puzzles and doing some Nativity Play singing.

After lunch we went to visit Dave, Jo, Alice and Fi and Elliott packed all his cars into his bag to show Alice and Fi - plus we took the drum, guitar and recorder. We had lots of fun visiting and went for a walk in the woods behind the house with torches to go Gruffalo hunting. We didn't see any Gruffalos but we did see his chair! He played really nicely with Alice and Fi and was just a little reluctant with eating his sausage and mash, but we had already had pasta for lunch as I wasn't expecting to get fed on our visit!

Mince pie experiment

General

Elliott was good all day today and went to bed nicely and without fuss at lights out. I think his voice became a little less croaky as the day went on.

Activities

We went to The Look Out in the afternoon and played outside and inside with the exhibits. We also tried a mince pie, though he didn't really like it after taking one very enthusiastic bite - his face went form expecting cake I think to looking like he was eating worms.

We also did some singing along to the Christmas Play tunes and some relaxed play at home after getting back.

Monday 14 November 2011

Toad Hall

General

Elliott was good all day today.

Activities

In the morning we went swimming which was really good fun and he swam for ages.

In the afernoon we went to Henley where we visited Toad Hall Garden Centre. They had a really nice Santa's grotto all set up there already (though no Santa apart from weekends) so we had a look round and a look at lots of Christmas things (hats, presents, etc).

We also did some singing along to play music and a small bit of French.

Monday 7 November 2011

Baby Elizabeth

General

Elliott was good all day today again apart from the end of the day when he wouldn't put his pjamas on even after a chat, so we had a time out. Then he wouldn't go up after his milk so he went to bed with no story. He woke around 7am again though.

Activities

In the morning we went out for coffee and then scootering. We also did some singing along to the new Christmas Play tunes CD - he was brilliant and knew loads of the words and his singing was the cutest thing ever - he was a bit bashful, but was pretty good.

In the afternoon we went to visit one of Granny's friends whose daughter had just had a baby called Elizabeth. He was really good around her.

Harry and George

General

Elliott was good all day today again today apart from an incident over not wanting to eat yoghurt before he eat cake in which I stood firm and eventually he backed down. Again he woke at around 7.00am.

Activities

In the morning we went to Hengitsbury Head with Granny. Although a little cold it was really nice weather and sunny and he charged around on his balance bike - even using it on the beech and in the shallows. We had quite a long walk and he did really well.

In the afternoon we went to visit Russ and Hayley Higgins who were looking after Harry and they played together well. It was quite active play - lots of bouncing, jumping, footballing and hide and seek and at times Harry was quite "boisterous", but Elliott took it all in his stride and seemed to have a lot of fun (he was upset when it was time to go). Then we went on to visit Jules and Emma Tranter and he played with George nicely. However as George is a bit younger it wasn't as interactive as earlier - but Elliott was very patient and gentle. And by leaving time they had begun to interact pretty well.

Fireworks

General

Elliott was good all day today and woke at 6.50am which was good.

Activities

In the morning we went to Salisbury and had coffee and did some shopping.

In the afternoon we met up with Charlie Sladen and Peter Sladen and went to watch Salisbury City play against Dartford in the seats. This was good fun - we wrapped up warm, took some sweets and toys and both boys watched quite a bit of the football. Elliott became quite bored with about 10 minutes left so we had a look around the ground, but he did very well considering it wasn't all that exciting anyway. He also hilariously spent the first half shouting "come on whites" every so often, but in the second switched allegiance to "come on reds" (Dartford).

After the game we went to the Sladens for some fireworks and a bit of play. He reacted really well to the fireworks and watched them outside with Poppy and Charlie. They were quite low key and quiet in comparison to big displays, but they still made some bangs and fizzled away.

Soft play

General

Good day overall but did seem quite hyper for some of the day. So we had bath time a little earlier than normal and were in bed for stories by 6.45. However in the end we did 40 mins of stories anyway so close to normal bed time.

Activities

In the morning we went to the park and had some lunch in Sainburys. We enjoyed wearing the wizard gear for a while.

Then in the afternoon we went to soft play in Thatcham (we'd gone to the big Sainsburys near Theale). This was really good fun and as it was quiet he pretty much had the run of the place. There was also a nice indoor football area there and he played with me there for ages being "Sonny Bill" with a big over sized ball.

Monday 24 October 2011

Prospect Park

General

Another good day, though some reluctance to get dressed, don't know if you ever get that? Also at one point he seemed to have an itchy leg and was quite perturbed by this, though later said his leg was better. May be a sign of something?

Also at the moment the kitchen here is being re-done so we got out and about for most of the day as there were builders around and banging. We went down to say hello and he had lots of questions about what the builders were doing and how long it would take so you might hear about that - his expectations were that the new kitchen would be ready by the time we got home!

Activities

In the morning we went swimming which was busier than normal due to half term but a lot of fun. He was using the float as his "broom stick" for a while in refernce to the books I think.

For lunch we had Pizza Hut buffet - though went with pasta for both of us which he did really well with. He was really well behaved despite there being a lot of bad examples around him (half term again!)

In the afternoon we went to Prospect Park and did some playing and scootering. At one stage we had a "scooter crash" but he had hat on and fell into grass. He was a little shaken but absolutely fine and was soon back up and running after some Doctoring. He identified himself that he'd been trying to go a bit too fast so that was really good and was more careful after.

Butterfly World

General

Elliott was good all day today again today and shared and was really considerate with the other boys. Again very few signs of a cold.

Activities

In the morning we watched the Rugby World Cup while playing various games (including the monster game).

After the rugby we went to the nearby Butterfly World which was really good fun, though Lucas had left early. Elliott liked the butterflies, although was a little scared of a few really big ones that were there. We also played on play equipment there and had some lunch.

After lunch we went back but stopped off in Windsor for a while, which was very nice.

Dad's Weekend IV - "Enter the Dawso"

General

Elliott was good all day today. Considering how much interaction there was between all 4 boys during the day this was really good. There were hardly any signs of a cold apart from a few snorts.

Activities

In the morning after we arrived at St Albans we played at Matt's house for a while with Reuben and Lucas until Billy arrived. Then we went to a local park for lunch and to play which was great fun, especially as there was a bouncy castle in the park.

After we got back to Matt's there was lots more playing with Reuben's toys, including some time in the garden. We played lots of different things - trains, jigsaw puzzles, reading books, hide and seak, scootering, etc.

There was a lot of interaction between the 4 boys which went really well.

Palmer Park

General

Elliott was good all day today and had a nap for an hour after lunch (he fell asleep on me on the sofa.)

Activities

We went food shopping and scootering around Palmer Park in the morning.

After nap time we did a little bit of French (tiny!), some numbers and played with musical toys (recorder, drums, tambourine, etc.

Monday 10 October 2011

Victoria Park

General

Elliott was good all day today and got dressed when asked following up on promise yesterday.

Activities

We went to Salisbury with Granny in the morning and looked around the shops. We also had lunch in a pub.

Then in the afternoon we went to Victoria Park on the way home for some scootering and to play in the playground.

Sonny Bill

General

Elliott was good all day today apart from taking a very long time to get dressed again. This time the chat became a time out but hopefully tomorrow he will have taken things on board.

Activities

We had quite a laid back day with a lot of playing with toys and watching television.

We did get out twice (morning and afternoon) for some scootering.

And we watched some rugby during the morning so in the afternoon we played a hybrid version of football and rugby with a soft mini football during which Elliott played the role of "Sonny Bill" (he's kind of the Messi of rugby if you haven't come across him, plays for New Zealand). This was a lot of fun, although we did knock over a basket of pot pourri - but he was brilliant about helping clear up and even did some carpet sweeping himself.

Cholderton Charlie's Farm

General

Elliott was good all day today apart from taking a very long time to get dressed. He responded to a chat in the end but it was hard work.

Activities

We spent the day with Matt and Harry Higgins. We spent some time at their house playing (and with Lara and Albert). Then we went to Cholderton Charlie's Farm which was brilliant - had a ride on a tractor, saw some pig racing plus assorted range of playgrounds, soft play and even trampolines. We had pic nic lunch there too. Afterwards we went back to the Higgins again for some calmer television watching and indoor play. Elliott and Harry played really well together, at one point even sharing food without being asked to.

Swimming

General

Elliott was good all day today.

Activities

We went swimming in the morning and his kicking was really good, as well as lots of splashing and general fun.

After lunch we did a bit of supermarket shopping and then some scootering and playgrounding.

Scootering and Milly

General

Elliott was good all day today.

Activities

In the morning we went shopping and did some scootering in the park.

In the afternoon we went to visit Dave, Lucy, Milly and Elsie at their house which was lots of fun. We played with lots of new things including a butterfly catching game.

Alice and Fi

General

Elliott was good all day today apart from when it was time to leave Alice and Fi's when he misbehaved so I gave him a time out on Dave and Jo's stairs and he was much better afterwards.

Activities

In the morning we did some playing with cars and then some reading and playing with alphabet cards / snap cards.

In the afternoon we went to visit Dave, Jo, Alice and Fi at their house which was lots of fun. We took the scalectrix and Elliott played with dolls / wendy house / play kitchen equimpment quite a bit so it was a bit of a gender play time exchange! There was also lots of hide and seek.

Archery

General

Elliott was good all day.

He was also really good and calm when I picked him up from nursery on Friday. On Thrusday evening we'd had a chat about behaving more calmly at pick up time and he definitely remembered because in the car after pick up on Friday he was saying "I was much calmer wasn't I", so I was praising him. Thanks for your text reply to that.

Activities

In the morning we went to big Tescos and did lots of scootering in the park next door as well as playing on the playground equipment there. We found a "first archery" set in Tescos reduced to £1.50 so we bought that and had some fun with it as well - it's soft arrow shapes with velcro bottoms and a velcro target, lots of fun.

After lunch we spent the afternoon colouring, playing with plasticine and doing a little bit of writing letters.

Pre-school update

Tuesday

Really good - picture on praising tree for tidying up and sticker for being good in French lesson.

Wedensday

Really good - stickers for being good at counting and number recognition.

Wedensday

Really good again - but got a bit hyperactive when I went to pick him up (lots of hopping and jumping and not a lot of telling me what he'd been up to - does he do this with you or is he normally good at telling you what he's been up to?)

Monday 19 September 2011

Library

General

Elliott was good all day today.

Activities

We went to Salisbury in the morning to pick up the mug he painted from last week from Splash of Colour - this is a birthday present for you from him - will get it to you first Thursday you are back when I drop him off - he's done a great job, the woman said it looked like expensive glaze from Poole pottery - he actually basically painted the whole thing in 3 different colours one over the top of the other (all his work too) and it has come out looking really good.

While we were in town we also went to the library and did some reading and colouring. We also had a look around some toy shops where he was very good and just pointed out possible Christmas presents while understanding there was no borrowing today.

After lunch we went out to the New Forest with the scooter for some exercise.

Thursday 15 September 2011

Farmer Palmers

General

Elliott was good all day today apart from needing one time out at the farm because he was behaving badly towards other children on pedal tractors (much smaller) after being asked not to.

Activities

We went to Farmer Palmers today. This had the normal farm animals plus a soft play area, indoor bouncy castle, barn with slides and hay bales, outdoor bouncy castle, outdoor go karts, outdoor playground, outdoor pedal tractor zone and woodland nature walk - all of which we got involved with. We had a lot of fun and a picnic lunch there - he was interested in the animals as well, though stopped short of wanting to hold a bottle and feed the lambs milk himself (he did watch though).

On the way home we stopped off at Avon Heath County Park and did some scootering as well.

He also did a lot of singing today (Baa Baa Black Sheep, The Wheels On The Bus,  Jingle Bells, Old Macdonald, etc).

Tanks

General

Elliott was good all day today. After the phonecall I told him he'd made Mummy very happy and he was really pleased. He also seems to have a slightly sore bottom today so have been applying cream.

Activities

We went to the Tank Museum today. We were also going to go to Monkey World (very near) or the Dinosaur Museum nearby but there was so much to do we didn't get a chance. There were lots of tanks (obvioulsy), but also a trench exhibition and an Afghanistan exhibition both of which were really well done - trenches were so realistic at one point he was a little scared of a soldier. There was also some places to dress up and play with toys for him which went down well. And a tank demonstration outside which I will upload some video of that he really enjoyed, despite there being some loud bangs at the end.

We did pop in to Wareham for something to eat on the way home which was also very nice and had a scooter down to the quay.

Tea with Charlie

General

Elliott was good all day today. He did have one small poo accident in his pants at one point, but it was very little. He's also been saying "eh is for Elliott" a lot today so did some letter cards and games with him to re-inforce and see if he takes in more.

Activities

In the morning we went to Fordingbridge and had some coffee and played in the park.

In the afternoon we went to a park in Salisbury and did some scootering before Charlie Sladen came round for tea. Lots of playing and fun with Charlie including some very impressive scalectrix racing and a shared love of Cars toys!

Elliott had 1 time out today for unravelling a whole toilet roll (this is the second time he's done this). He responded well, knew what he had done wrong and promised not to again.

He did less poos today.

Activities

In the morning Kate and Anthony came round for coffee and he was really good, but also fun and ended up playing Duplo and Scalectrix with Anthony.

In the afternoon we went to "Splash of Colour" in town and he painted a mug - he was much improved on last visit (ages ago) and basically painted the whole mug a few different colours and seemed to really enjoy it. Then we went to Vicotria Park again for more balance bike and this time some play with the park apparatus as well.

Avon Heath Country Park

General

Elliott was good all day. He actually did a lot of trying to wipe his own bottom today which I encouraged (though at one point did get a bit messy). However he did also do 4 different poos during the day, which seemed a bit high, but checked his temperature before bed and he was fine and has seemed fine all day.

Activities

In the morning we went to Avon Heath Country Park. Unfortunately it was raining but it had a good visitors centre with activities and a nice cafe and we'll go back another day.

In the afternoon we went to Victoria Park and he rode around on his balance bike for ages and really enjoyed himself - he was also doing quite a lot of coasting with feet off the ground balancing on 2 wheels.

Jingle Bells

General

Elliott was good all day. He woke at 5.30am but went back to sleep for an hour. He had a short snooze in the car at one point.

Activities

In the morning we went to Salisbury shopping with Granny and in the afternoon we went to the park in Downton for some playground activity.

Mainly we had a quiet day playing with lego and cars. We also did some story reading and some letter recognition.

He sang Jingle Bells a lot today, which confused someone in Tescos a bit, but also some Old Macdonald and Polly Put The Kettle On.

Cars 2

General

Elliott had one time out today for calling me names, but was good after that. Everything else was totally fine.

Activities

We went to the park and did some balance bike and running about after breakfast.

Then we went to the cinema and watched Cars 2. He was totally absorbed by the whole thing and when he did need to go to the toilet he practically ran there and back! He also seemed interested in the advert before for Thomas as mentioned so I have put a leaflet in his pre school bag for you to see in case you might be interested - completely sure it's not essential though.

After the cinema we did some playing with trains at home and also some reading and letter recognition - he seems really good at "eh" for elephant and "sss" for snake, and a few others. And before bed as well as story time and making up our own stories tonight we talked about what happened in the film and his recognition and memory was really good.

Weale visit

General

Elliott was good all day and woke at 6.50am. He eat well and had no time outs.

Activities

We went to visit Kate and Anthony in the morning and he was really well behaved. They got out an old fisher price garage for him to play with and he really enjoyed it, but also enjoyed running around in the garden where he saw a Buzzard in the sky.

In the afternoon we drove back to Reading and did a lot of playing when we got back to the house, especially with cars on the car mat.

General

Elliott was good all day and woke at 7am. He eat well and had no time outs.

We went to Mothercare in the morning and bought new wellies. Then we went to the park with Granny and did some scootering on a new more grown up scooter that he got the hang of really quickly.

In the afternoon we visited the Sladens and he had lots of fun with Charlie and Poppy, including doing a treasure hunt Poppy designed. He also did some hula hooping.

Balance bike

Sleep

Elliott woke at 6.50am.

He had a nap in the car on the way to a park for about 30 minutes after lunch.

He went to bed at 7.30pm and chatting to himself for about 20 minutes before going to sleep.

Food

Elliott had Special K for breakfast.

He had sausages, potato waffles and beans for lunch with some orange segments afterwards.

For tea he had some muffins and a yoghurt.

He had biscuits for a morning snack.

Toilet

He had no accidents today.

Naughtiness

He was really good all day.

Activities

We went to big Tescos and the park next to it in the morning. He did a lot of riding on his balance bike again which he requested. He was also very well behaved when we did a quick shop in Tescos.

After lunch we went to a park towards Oxford as it was quite hot and he was requesting going on his balance bike again so I wanted to go somewhere with lots of space that was really quiet. He had a lot of fun in this park.

When we got home we did about 3 minutes of French before I gave up and we watched some of Happy Feet instead!

Nursery funday

Sleep

Elliott woke at 7.30am.

He went to bed at 7.30pm and went to sleep quickly.

Food

Elliott had Special K for breakfast.

He had fish fingers, chips and beans in a pub for lunch with Granny.

For tea he had toast and a yoghurt. I tried some grapes as well but he refused vehemently.

He had a chocolate rice crispie cake for a morning snack at nursery funday.

Toilet

He had no accidents today.

Naughtiness

He was really good for most of the day, but towards the end of the day, after warning him a few times, I gave him a time out because he was calling me various silly names rather than Daddy. In some ways quite funny but I thought name calling isn't to be encouraged.

Activities

We went to the Nursery funday in the morning with Granny. This was great, although he was quite shy at first as I think he found it confusing seeing the staff in their own clothes rather than nursery uniform. There were various stalls, a bouncy castle (which he really enjoyed) and even a fire engine - although this had to go for a real emergency before we'd had a chance to see it properly. He also spent some time while we were there playing with Matthew, the other Elliott and Finn though they came and went at different times. It was really good fun though and I think he really enjoyed himself.

Then we went for lunch in a pub with Granny and he was really well behaved.

After lunch we went to a park for a while and we tried him with a new balance bike we've bought (as emailed at one stage). He got on brilliantly with the bike, but I think it might already be a bit late for it as he was totally comfortable lifting his legs up and cruising along for short distances on 2 wheels right from the start. However he did seem to really enjoy it, as well as some frisbee and normal playground apparatus.

After the park Granny went home and we did some colouring, reading and some alphabet cards. It was around this time when he became a bit silly - using silly names, saying no a lot, stamping about. However after the time out he really calmed down again and we did some playing with trains before bath time.

Monday 8 August 2011

A day out with Thomas

Sleep

Elliott woke at 6.30am.

He had a nap in the car on the way home for about 40 minutes.

He went to bed at 7.30pm and went to sleep quickly.

Food

Elliott had Special K for breakfast.

He had ham sandwiches for lunch with some raisins and I tried to get him to have some orange segments but he wasn't keen.

For tea he had cheese on toast and a yoghurt.

He had some cake for a morning snack.

Toilet

He had no accidents today and a good poo with some attempted wiping himself.

Naughtiness

He was really good all day.

Activities

We went to the Watercress Line day out with Thomas today with Dave, Jo, Alice and Fi. We had a brilliant day with lots of riding on different steam trains and also children's entertainer, playgrounds, colouring, face painting (though Elliott didn't want to join in), transfer tattoo (he had James on his arm) and lots of grown ups dressed up as Thomas characters (the fat controller, a police man, etc).

He was really well behaved all day and also had lots of fun. He got on really well with Alice and Fi and when we were watching the children's entertainer he went up to the front and joined in with the actions, even though he looked a little shy at first.

The only downside of the day was that there was a bouncy castle slide that he wanted to have a go on, but when he got to the top of the slide he was a bit scared. I couldn't go up to help because of insurance rules so in the end the man running it went up and helped him climb back down the stair side. He seemed to take it in his stride though and I gave him lots of support and cuddles (which he shrugged off quite quickly and just started running around again). The slide was for ages 3 to 11 and I was a bit dubious as to whether he would like it while we were queuing, but he did ask if he could have a go and he seemed quite keen on the idea until he got up the stairs.

Other than that though an absolutely brilliant day.

Monday 1 August 2011

Rio

Sleep

Elliott woke at 7am.

He had a nap in the car on the way home for about an hour and a half.

He went to bed at 7.50pm, a bit later than ideal due to leaving Dave and Lucy's a little late, but he went straight to sleep without any talking or crooning at all.

Food

Elliott had Special K for breakfast.

He had half a jam sandwich, some raisins and some orange jelly for lunch in a kid's deal at BHS (I hid the wotsits from him and took them home for another day because of cinema snack earlier). But he requested and had a small bowl of Special K about an hour later as well after we got home.

For tea he had plain pizza with a few chips and some peas (we did 7) at Dave and Lucy's with Milly and Elsie.

He had some popcorn in the cinema during the morning for a snack (a special small "kids club" size that he shared with me) and half a clementine in the afternoon for a snack.

Toilet

He had no accidents today and a very smooth poo with some attempted wiping himself.

Naughtiness

He was really good for most of the day. We had lunch in BHS in town and he asked for a jam sandwich but then proceeded not to eat it for quite a while saying he didn't like it. In the end I he ate half of it after I told him I wouldn't let him have his Lightning McQueen toy back all day unless he ate half of it. Weirdly I think he did like it when he started eating it (and I've seen him eat jam sandwiches before) but I think it turned into a bit of a battle of wills so I only tried a little to encourage the second half because I didn't want to get stuck in a cycle of reasoning for another 20 minutes or so.

Activities

In the morning after normal routine and some playing we went to the Vue cinema for kid's club showing of Rio. This was really good. The price was really good value (£3.90 for both of us) and they even did a snack deal of fruit shute and small box of popcorn for only £1.50. I spent most of the film watching him watching the film and he seemed transfixed for most of it. It was about 2 hours long and we went to the toilet after about an hour. When we got back he was a little restless for about a quarter of an hour (and it was also quite noisy in there at times), but he soon got back into it with some encouragement and questions about what had happened and what was happening. It was a decent film (maybe a little over long considering it's aimed at children), but lots of funny bits and some good clean action. But it was no Toy Story / Cars / Madagascar so it was good to see he was still really engaged by the experience.

After the film we went for lunch in BHS and had a wander around a few shops and he was really good and understood we weren't going to be "borrowing" any toys today, just looking. He didn't throw any strops or get disappointed when it was time to move on and he was really well behaved when he looked at the toys (he asked if he could hold some, but was always careful and always understood we had to put them back but maybe one day would get one as a present for Christmas / birthday / if he was good).

After we got home he was quite tired from walking I think (I had to do some "up" while we were out) so we watched a Thomas and played with some cars (and he had some Special K).

Then we went to Lucy and Dave's for tea with Milly and Elsie and also some playing in the garden which was really good, and he was really polite and played really well with Milly. Plus, even though he hasn't seen them for a while, he wasn't shy at all.

On the way to Lucy and Dave's we also stopped at Wokingham Tescos for a quick bit of shopping (I needed some milk so picked up a few other things). He was brilliant aroudn the supermarket and we pushed the trolley around together which was good fun and he responded really well to instructions (e.g. "lets park it over there for a minute").

Unfortunately we had such a good time at Dave and Lucy's that time ran away a little, so when we got back it was quite a quick bed time routine, but again he responded really well to the urgency and had a quick bath without complaint or stalling with parking cars, etc. So in the end we got to bed time story at 7.30pm which was good for tomorrow I think.
