Lego Movie police vehicle

General

Elliott was very good after school today. he had fish and chips for lunch at school and had an incident report due to a graze on his hand, which he was quite proud of. He got the graze on his hand by falling over in the playground while playing.

Activities

We stopped off at Asda for tea on the way home and to pick up some shopping. We also looked at toys but he was really good and knew we weren't buying any and didn't complain at all. After we got home we made a Lego Movie police vehicle from the set that Graham gave him for his birthday - which took quite a while and was quite complicated so he needed lots of help. After we'd finished that it was time for bath and bed and we read some Peter Rabbit before bedtime.

The night before birthday

General

Elliott was really good after school today.

Activities

We stopped off at Sainsburys after swimming to buy some birthday treats to take into school tomorrow. Swimming went very well and he seemed to enjoy it. After we got home we opened one present early which was a Lego Movie chase set from Graham, so we made that and played with it in between having some toast for tea. I asked if he wanted some more birthday cake for tea but he didn't seem keen - he wanted to be "strong and healthy" - this didn't stop him from having a traditional chocolate treat after swimming! Then he did some really good reading from a much longer school book before bed time.

Turbo

General

Elliott was good today apart from being a little grumpy around lunch time when I asked him not to run around in the shops.

Activities

We went to Kid's Club at Bracknell Odeon in the morning with Andrea where we watched Turbo. This was good fun (even though he knew the film inside out he was still keen to go). We then had a look around the shops.

After lunch we had hair cuts - he was very well behaved while he had his hair cut. Then we all went to Ludgrove to do some cycling. After we got home he did lots of homework - although there is still lots of room to do another picture if you want (this week's homework is to do a picture with patterned colours based on a favourite object). We focused on his handwriting while he wrote his words and he did really well, pretty legible. We had chicken fajitas for tea and then after tea he read one of his Star Wars books really well before bed.

Swimming and cycling

General

Elliott was really good today apart from getting upset that the rain stopped him from showing off his cycling skills more for Granny and Grandpa.

Activities

We had a lazy morning dancing and singing to "Everything Is Awesome" from The Lego Movie and playing with Lego and Star Wars toys. Then we met up with Granny and Grandpa for lunch in Pizza Express in Reading. Elliott had dough balls and burro pasta and ate very well with nothing left.

After lunch we went to Waterstones and Granny and Grandpa bought Elliott some new books - a Peter Rabbit book, a Star Wars sticker book and an Eye Spy book for car journeys. Then we went to Palmer Park so Elliott could show Granny and Grandpa his cycling. Unfortunately this didn't last very long because of a heavy shower of rain and he was a bit upset he didn't get to show them more cycling (and spend more time cycling). Then it was off to swimming lesson which Granny and Grandpa came to watch and he did really well as usual - plus because it was half term there were only 3 children there so he got lots of time with the teacher. Then it was home for tea and he read his Peter Rabbit book really well before bed.

Dentist

General

Elliott was good for most of today. He did get upset in the afternoon when he wanted a toy In Tescos and I said no and he kept asking if he could have one, but he calmed down after a firm explanation.

Activities

In the morning we played with some games at Granny and Grandpas house before setting off back to Reading to go to the Dentist. The Dentist visit went really well and he sat in the chair and opened his mouth wide with no problems at all. The Dentist said that he had a wobbly tooth in his lower teeth and gave him a special envelope to put it in for the tooth fairy when it falls out. He also got a Spiderman sticker which went down very well.

After the Dentist we popped into Tescos where he got a little demanding over wanting a toy but did calm down quickly. After Tescos it was home for a pizza tea, playing and reading.

Lego City policeman, police motorcycle and robber

General

Elliott was good all day today and only got upset once when he accidentally dropped some Lego on his eye which would have hurt a little (but he also calmed down very quickly).

Activities

We played with Lego and and toy animals for most of the morning. We also did some bird and squirrel watching in Granny and Grandpa's garden as they have new bird feeding equipment that squirrels sometimes help themselves to. We also popped out to Tescos to buy a new Lego set with his pocket money - a Lego City policeman with motorbike and robber set. He made this set completely by himself. Then we had Roast Chicken for lunch and he ate this very nicely, although didn't have any vegetables in the end.

After lunch we did quite a lot of colouring with various colouring books and some pictures on plain paper (Star Wars based). We also practiced a little hand writing. Granny helped us with this as well. Then we read some stories and jokes from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle magazine. And of course more playing with Lego.

The Lego Movie

General

Elliott was good for all of today. After the Lego Movie he and Harry Higgins were a little hyper (from sweets I think) and there were a few times when he went from being upset with something Harry had done to giggling non stop but with some encouragement he calmed down quickly.

Activities

We had a lazy morning with Granny and Grandpa playing with Starguards and Aliens and other space toys and watching cartoon network. Unfortunately I got called on to do some work following up the storms from the night before so Granny and Grandpa took the lead for a while, but he was really good and they were able to join in with his imagination running wild.

After lunch we went to Salisbury where we met up with Charlie Sladen, Harry Higgins and their Dads and then went to the cinema to see The Lego Movie. Everyone enjoyed the film (it is quite good) and I Elliott was talking about definitely wanting to see it again with you. After the film finished we went for some coffees and waters (for the boys) and they had fun together, though were a little buoyed up by sweet intake I think. However they could have been a lot worse. Then it was back to Granny and Grandpas for tea, bath and bed and he was really good and also got very involved playing with my old Lego and explaining the plot of the film to Granny and Grandpa.

Driving to Downton

General

Elliott said he'd had a good day at school and we talked about what a good parents evening he'd had and how much he'd improved and how brilliant that was. He had fish and chips for lunch.

Activities

We drove back to Downton to see Granny and Grandpa after school. The conditions weren't great so we took it slowly and it took a while, but we arrived with enough time to have some toast and cheese and a bath before 7.30pm bedtime. He was in good spirits to see Granny and Grandpa and chatted with them loads about school, Lego and Libby.

Back in the swimming pool

General

Elliott said he'd had a good day at school, except he had a scrape just under his chin that he said had been caused by Cody. He was a little upset but when he discovered we were going swimming again he was much happier.

Activities

Swimming went really well and we did thorough drying afterwards to alleviate any adverse reaction to his cold. After we got home we played with Lego although because of flooding crisis I also had to field some phone calls so Andrea helped. He did some really good reading from his blue book but he didn't want to do any homework - though has promised he will do some tomorrow morning.

Tea at Asda

General

Elliott said he'd been learning about China at school today and he came home with a paper plate coloured in with Chinese designs and a piece of art work showing each of the different Chinese animals that represent the years. We also showed Mrs Mahmood his lego R2-D2  which went down well. He had "tomato pizza" for lunch.

Activities

I decided not to go to swimming lessons today because of Elliott's cough so instead we went to Asda for tea as a treat. He was a bit upset about not going swimming at first, but I explained it was so he could get better and we had a good time looking at toys in Asda and having one of their kid's meals - he had a ham sandwich, cocktail sausages, some cake and a fruit shute. After we got home we finished off homework, although he was a bit distracted and although we finished his words we only managed to do one more shopping at the cafe sum. After bed time he did some really good reading with a longer book than normal and went to sleep well after cough medicine. Ironically he hardly coughed at all after school today.

After school cycling test

General

Elliott said he'd had a good day at school today, but he also said he'd been on the board for the last 3 days because he'd accidentally pushed Charlie. I didn't quite get to the bottom of this, but I suspect he has been in a bit of trouble recently for something - Mrs Parfitt didn't mention anything when I talked to her about the nurture lady though. He also talked about how no-one ever let him play his game and everyone always played Adam's game, but again I didn't quite manage to get totally to the bottom of what he meant. On a more positive note he seems to have really enjoyed some Star Wars time with Mrs Mahmood. He had meatballs for lunch and his cough sounds a bit better - still there but not as deep as before.

Activities

After school we wrapped up warm and went to Palmer Park for after school cycle club on the athletics track to keep working on cycling and confidence. This was brilliant and for an hour Elliott rode around the 400m oval pretty much non stop. He tried a slightly bigger bike than his Ben 10 bike for a couple of circuits as well (they have bikes there to borrow) and that went very well too. After we got home he had a packed tea and then wrote more words from his homework before bath, some really good reading and bed.

Cycling at Ludgrove

General

Elliott was good for all of today, although we had sausage and mash for tea and for some reason he didn't eat his mash very well (or any peas at all). His cough still sounds quite bad so we skipped football but we did get some fresh air doing more cycling practice and he was wrapped up lots.

Activities

We had a lazy morning watching Lego Star Wars and playing with Lego Star Wars. After elevenses we went out to the private road by Ludgrove School and did some more adventurous cycling practice. This was really good and he was cycling over sleeping policemen and for long stretches. He did fall off once as he practiced trying to start cycling uphill but it was a very gentle fall at a standstill and he got straight up and got on with it.

After lunch we played with Hexbugs before starting his homework - this week's task is all about a café and adding up the value of different items so I think it combines Maths and learning about money. We did half of his words as well and he did really well at both tasks. After homework we popped round to Andrea's Mum and Dads where Harry and Jack Jenkins were visiting with their Dad and had some fun playing there and showing Harry his new light sabre. After a slightly frustrating tea he did bath, reading and bed time really well.

Anakin Skywalker's light sabre

General

Elliott was good overall today. However when I went to pick him up from Harry Jenkins' house just before we left he got upset about a toy swap that he instigated and kept changing his mind. He did calm down pretty quickly. His cough is also sounding worse again so we got some cough syrup and used Karpol drops at bed time for his pillow.

Activities

In the morning I went to pick him up quite early and we played with Harry and Jack Jenkins which was good fun apart from the toy swap moment. Apparently he'd been really well behaved and before we arrived they'd gone out scootering and done some exercise. We then went out for lunch at Pizza Hut which was very nice and he ate his plain pizza and garlic bread very well.

After lunch we went shopping with his pocket money and bought a light sabre he'd been saving for. He chose Anakin Skywalker's light sabre instead of Obi Wan Kinobe's but it was a hard choice. After this we did lots of cycling practice in the afternoon which he really enjoyed (and he was wrapped up very warm). After tea we did some reading of his school books and he went to bed very well.
