Disappointment in Basingstoke

Sleep

Elliott woke at 7.10am.

After lunch on the way to Basingstoke in the car Elliott had a nap for about 50 minutes.

He went to bed at 7.30pm and went to sleep quickly.

Food

Elliott had Rice Crispies for breakfast.

He had ham, potatoes and beans for lunch with a yoghurt pudding.

For tea he had some toast.

He had a biscuit for a snack in the morning.

Toilet

All his weeing was really good today. He did no poo at all today.

Naughtiness

Just one naughty part of the day today - in Basingstoke he refused to put his seat belt on when we'd got back into the car for ages. I did a lot of chatting and explaining and eventually he did put it on, but we came very close to a time out!

Activities

In the morning we did a lot of playing in Downton. We did some puzzles, made a puppet (he got really involved with this), played with cars, watched some Milkshake programmes and did some football in the garden.

After lunch we went back to Reading and the plan was to stop off at the milestones museum in Basingstoke to break up the journey. Unfortunately when we got to the museum we discovered it wasn't open on Mondays! This was the point when Elliott got a little frustrated and refused to put his seat belt back on in the car. Eventually though we got going again and stopped off at a Morrisons where we bought a new Thomas book and had a drink in the cafe while reading the new book.

When we got back to Reading we played with brio for a while before it was time for bed routine.

No pictures from today due to museum being closed and other activities being pretty normal!

Baby Alice

Sleep

Elliott woke at 6.30am.

After lunch on the way to the Sladens in the car Elliott had a nap for about 40 minutes (we parked up so he could enjoy a longer sleep!)

He went to bed at 7.30pm and went to sleep quickly.

Food

Elliott had Rice Crispies for breakfast.

He had fish fingers, potato waffles and beans for lunch with a yoghurt pudding.

For tea he had a roll and a few segments of satsuma.

He had a biscuit for a snack in the morning and the afternoon.

Toilet

All his weeing was really good today. Unfortunately he did his poo in his pants again today, which I was hoping he might not do after loads of good progress with pooing on the days before.

Naughtiness

He was really good all day today. The only time he ever came close to being naughty was when we left the Sladens and he wanted to take one of Charlie's toys with him, but I reminded him about the time-out yesterday and how that's what happens if you don't listen and explained it was Charlie's toy and how would he feel if Charlie took one of his toys and he snapped out of it and was brilliant.

Activities

In the morning we went to Breamore House where they have some very nice gardens! We did a lot of running around but also some looking at flowers, plants, bushes etc. He seemed quite interested in the different types of plant in the garden and how it had all been put together.

After lunch we went to visit the Sladens and their new addition, baby Alice. It was the normal mix of playing in the garden and playing inside. Outside there was some scootering, some little tikes car, some football and even some cricket. Inside there was playing with cars and trains with Charlie and making a den with him upstairs in his bedroom. He was also really gentle and well behaved with baby Alice and was really interested in her little toes and fingers!

After we got back we did some more reading than usual and looked at alphabet a bit again, though each time we return to it he seems to have forgotten previous letters (a, b and s), though doesn't take long to pick them back up.

Football catch

Sleep

Elliott had no nap today

He went to bed at 7.30pm and went to sleep quickly.

Food

Elliott had fish cakes, chips and peas for lunch with a yoghurt pudding.

For tea he had toast.

He had a biscuit for a snack in the afternoon.

Toilet

He was brilliant with toileting today but had already done his poo!

Naughtiness

We had one time-out on a naughty step today for, as it normally appears to be, not listening to Daddy / escalating into deliberately not doing what Daddy asks - in this case I was asking him to go and wash his hands before tea - and he had been warned it was 5 minutes until tea. This turned into one of the longer time-outs and there was a lot of "battle of wills" going on, but I kept explaining that I had all day and we'd be there until he'd done his time-out properly and eventually I think he realised I was serious and gave up!

Activities

We went back to Downton and stopped off in Basingstoke on the way.

In Basingstoke we found a park and had quite a lot of fun running around - he seems to absolutely love racing and chasing, just for hours and hours almost!

After we got to Downton we mainly stayed inside and did indoor playing / puzzles. However we did go into the garden for quite an extended game of "football catch". His catching is really coming along, though he does seem to use his head quite a lot as part of the catching process at the moment (clutching our soft football into his neck or forehead to keep it stable). Still very impressive though, and his throwing is really accurate, especially when he wants it to be.

We also watched some Mr Benn (old school) which he seemed quite engaged by - even though the animation is, frankly, rubbish by today's standards.

Baby horses

Sleep

Elliott had a very brief rest (30 minutes) after lunch.

He went to bed at 7.30pm and went to sleep quickly.

Food

Elliott had toast for breakfast.

He had sausages, fish fingers, potatoes and peas for lunch with a yoghurt pudding..

For tea he had some toasted hot cross buns with margarine.

He had a biscuit for a snack in the morning and the afternoon.

Toilet

He was brilliant with toileting today. With his poo he started going while out in the garden playing catch and I clocked it and helicoptered him onto the toilet where he completed the job. I made a big fuss about doing a poo in the toilet and we talked about telling Daddy when it first starts coming if he can!

Naughtiness

He was well behaved today. There was an afternoon period of "not wanting to do x and y" but this always morphed quickly into actually then "can we do x and y" - complete with cheeky grin. So we did some chatting (mainly me) about it being silly to say no to something and then want to do it a minute later!

Activities

In the morning we went back to see Granny and Grandpa in Downton. We stopped in Winchester for some breakfast and a wander about to relieve journey boredom.

When we got to Downton we went to the park for a while before lunch with Granny and Grandpa.

Then after his brief rest we went to the New Forrest to look at horses and feed the ducks (plus see babies of both) and run around a bit.

When we got back we did a jigsaw, did some playing (mainly with trains), did some colouring in and watched some Thomas (definitely the current favourite during my TV time!)

Coral Reef

Sleep

Elliott woke at 7am.

He had no nap at all today, though he did go upstairs for a rest after lunch, however he didn't sleep.

He went to bed at 7.30pm and went to sleep quickly.

Food

Elliott had Weetos for breakfast.

He had fish fingers, potatoes and beans for lunch with a yoghurt pudding.

He had toast for tea.

He had a biscuit for a snack in the afternoon and a little bit of a reduced chocolate Ben 10 Easter Egg I found for a snack in tea, but only about a quarter of an egg.

Toilet

He had one wet accident in the park today and his poo was in his pants unfortunately.

Naughtiness

He was good overall today, but towards the end of the day he was a little over tired I think, which led to a little manicness and some mood swings (one minutes giggling a lot, the next being quite upset about something innocuous - e.g. the bridge on his train track falling over). Because he seemed over tired I basically went for a really calm atmosphere with lots of chilling out watching Thomas and reading stories which seemed to calm him down.

Activities

We wernt swimming in the morning which ended up being Coral Reef as we missed toddler swim in the Reading central pool. Coral Reef was brilliant, though again I think you must have been with him because he was talking about that and recognised it? Anyway I bought him some arm bands myself because I'd forgotten to ask you (not that they're particularly expensive) and he had a great time - apart from being a bit scared of the showery features. Plus the water there seems a bit warmer than the Wokingham pool we're used to which was really good.

After lunch we went to a park in Caversham for a bit where unfortunately the wet accident happened. But we changed clothes and carried on!

Before bed we did trains and tracks again (he really seems into Thomas at the moment) and also some musical instruments. But this was around the time he became a little frantic so we changed to more relaxing activities like watching Thomas and reading Thomas stories.

Fireman Elliott

Sleep

Elliott woke at 6am.

After lunch on the way to Monkey Mates in the car Elliott had a nap for about 40 minutes.

He went to bed at 7.30pm and went to sleep quickly.

Food

Elliott had Weetos for breakfast.

He had toast for lunch with a bite of banana.

For tea he had a burger, with potatoes and peas and a yoghurt pudding.

He had a biscuit for a snack in the morning.

Toilet

He was brilliant with toileting today but there was no poo all day.

Naughtiness

He started off a little naughty this morning. We were watching Thomas after breakfast and when it was time to go he was very stubborn. So we had a proper time-out on a naughty step (steps are back!) and it took ages. He kept moving to a non designated step for the time out and there was a lot of unnecessary whinging noises, so I kept moving him back. In the end it took about 15 minutes before he gave up and just had his time out.

Activities

In the morning we went to Reading to pick up some black out curtains. We also looked at some toys, though I made a point of not buying anything, but telling him if he was good for a few weeks I might buy something he liked. And we visited Starbucks for some elevenses and he was really well behaved and chatting away!

After lunch and some alphabetting and train tracking we went to Monkey Mates. He had a really good time and was much more confident than last time we went, though stopped short of the big slide - I coaxed a little, but didn't want to force him, though got the impression he might have been down it on a previous visit with you? Anyway other than that he was all over that place and was really sociable with lots of the other children there. Outside there was a Fireman Sam fire engine (in style of little tykes car) which he waited for patiently and then hared around in for ages when it was finally free. We also had a go on a tractor with pedals and he was getting the hang of the pedals, though I think found them quite difficult. All I'll say is that compared to some of the other children there he was really unselfish and well behaved!

In the evening we played with trains a lot and did quite a bit of reading. We also watched a few episodes of Thomas.

Oxford

Sleep

After lunch on the way home in the car Elliott had a nap for about a half hour.

He went to bed at 7.30pm and went to sleep quickly.

Food

Elliott had calamari, penne pasta with bolognese sauce, garlic bread and ice cream for lunch (in an Italian restaurant).

He had marmite sandwiches and yoghurt for tea.

He had a biscuit for a snack in the afternoon.

Toilet

He was brilliant with toileting today, apart from he had his poo in his pants in the car just after his nap.

Naughtiness

Good overall today, but there was one time out when he wouldn't leave the park when asked, despite being warned in advance, etc. However he took the time out really well and knew why he was having it when asked.

Activities

We were meant to be visiting the Dawsons today, but unfortunately Lucas was ill last night so the trip was cancelled at the last minute.

We went to Oxford for the day instead. This was really good. Because of the park and ride it involved a bus ride which he loved. Then in town we had a look at lots of the quads and parks, etc in the colleges which he really liked. We had lunch in an Italian restaurant which was nice and he was really well behaved - he also tried and liked calamari (cue eating my starter for me). We also looked round a few shops, including a kind of party shop where he fell in love with a rubber snake which I couldn't resist buying and he then carted around with him for the rest of the day.

On the way home we stopped in a village called Stoke Row (near Henley) where there was a very ornate well - The Maharajah's Well. He was quite interested in the well and then we found a park in the village which was really nice. He was a bit stubborn about leaving the park despite being warned in advance a few times, so we had a time out then.

After we got home we played with trains for quite a while before bath and bedtime. Did a little alphabet before bed, but not sure he was in the right mood and certainly seemed to have forgotten his letters from before!

Look Out, Elliott's about

Sleep

After lunch Elliott had a nap for about an hour in his bed.

He went to bed at 7.20pm and went to sleep quickly, which was really positive as it was the first night in his new home.

Food

Elliott had fish fingers, chips and peas for lunch, but didn't eat many peas.

He had a toast for tea.

He had a shortbread biscuit for his morning and afternoon snack.

Toilet

He had 1 wee accident during the day and he did his poo again while he was having his nap today. Other than that he was really good which is again encouraging as it was a new bathroom today - though he did do a wee there on one of the pre moving visits.

Naughtiness

He was good today - the only time he played up a little was after lunch when he seemed very tired, but the nap definitely helped.

Activities

In the morning we went to the park by Tescos for a few hours and then did a quick bit of shopping in Tescos. At the park we did a lot of playing with a football and also we went on the playground apparatus, including the baby zip wire which he absolutely loved. There was also another little girl playing on the apparatus and he was really sociable with her and also very well mannered, sharing turns, etc, which was brilliant. He was then really well behaved as we popped around Tescos with no incentive needed (Buttons, toys, etc!)

In the afternoon we went to The Look Out, which was as good as ever and now has new adventure playground apparatus for children with additional needs (but open to all) that he really enjoyed. We also had our tea there outside on a picnic table as the cafe does toast and it was such a nice evening. It was actually playing outside here where he had today's wee accident.

Imbetween the outside activities we also spent some time in the new house and he seemed quite excited by the finished version of his new bedroom and finding where everything was. We basically got all the different toys out at different stages and just did a lot of playing to get him used to the new environment.
