Shopping in Southampton

Sleep

Elliott woke at about 6.20am.

Elliott had an longish afternoon nap around 1pm for about an hour and a half.

He went to bed at 8pm with no problems.

Food

Elliott had weetabix for breakfast.

He had marmite sandwiches for lunch.

For tea he had sauasages, mash and peas and a yoghurt for pudding. He was a little reluctant to eat at first, but with some gentle persuasion he eventually sat down and eat really well.

He also had some biscuits during the day.

Toilet

Elliott had 1 "dirty" nappy that was more solid than previous few days. His nappy rash was much better but I continued to use Bepanthen to help.

He sat on his potty well during nappy changes and before bath time - and before bath time he squeeazed a wee so I praised him loads, however he didn't seem that bothered!

Naughtiness

Elliott had one time out to help him sit down for tea. He was really good doing the time out and stayed put until it was finished without making noise or fidgeting. He also said sorry when he got down at the end and appeared to know he was getting a time out for not sitting down to eat.

Activities

In the morning we went shopping in Southampton and Elliott was really well behaved. He was hapy to stay in his buggy for most of the morning, though did get out for a while and pushed it around himself.

After his nap we played with various cars and trains, did the Thomas jigsaw again, watched some Fireman Sam and generally had fun with Granny and Grandpa.

Daddy's Birthday

Sleep

Elliott had an average afternoon nap around 1pm for about an hour.

He went to bed at 8pm with no problems.

Food

We went out for lunch and Elliott had fish goujons, chips and beans and ate all his beans and fish goujons, but not all his chips.

He had marmite sandwiches for tea.

He also had a biscuit during the afternoon for tea.

Toilet

Elliott had 1 "dirty" nappy. His nappy rash was much better but I continued to use Bepanthen to help.

He sat on his potty well during nappy changes and before bath time but there was no product.

Naughtiness

Elliott had no time outs again today and was really well behaved all day.

Activities

After getting home and before going out for lunch we played with the marble run for quite a while and Elliott seems really interested in how the "bubbles" run down the different shutes, etc.

After his nap we built the Thomas jigsaw again and he put together the helicopter section of the picture with no help at all. We also did some indoor football, some alphabet cards, some tool kit playing, some reading, etc.

Before his bath Elliott also became fascinated with the dog puppet his Great Uncle Jim had bought him for Christmas and was chasing me with it on his arm saying "woof, woof"!

Christmas Day

Sleep

Elliott woke at 6.30am.

He had a long afternoon nap around 3pm for about 2 hours - a bit later than normal due to lunch and festivities, but he settled well.

He went to bed at 8pm with no problems.

Food

He had Rice Crisipies for breakfast (his choice).

He had traditional Christmas lunch - including turkey, sausages, roast and new potatoes and some sauces. However he did not try his sprout!

He had two slices of toast for tea.

He also had some chocolate biscuits during for afternoon tea as a special treat.

Toilet

Elliott had 1 "dirty" nappy. His nappy rash was much better and I used Bepanthen to help.

He sat on his potty well before bath time but there was no product. I didn't pursue the potty  as much as normal during the day because it was Christmas.

Naughtiness

Elliott had no time outs again today and was really well behaved all day, including in the Cathedral during the Christmas Day Service.

Activities

First thing in the morning we opened up the presents in the stocking left at the end of Elliott's bed by Santa - who had also polished off the sherry and mince pie left out for him by Elliott the night before. In the stocking were some cars, a boat and turtle for the bath, a cuddly snow man that plays jingles bells, a chocolate snow man (not eaten yet) and a wooden Santa. Elliott was good at unwrapping all these presents himself and was particularly taken by the cars which he immediately started playing with.

Then we had said Happy Christmas to Granny and Grandpa and had some breakfast and Christmas songs, before getting dressed and watching some Postman Pat / Christmas television.

Then we went off to the Cathedral for the end of the Service to help Granny who was steawarding. Elliott was really well behaved, though we weren't there much longer than 30 minutes. He seemed to enjoy everyone singing Hark the Herald Angels Sing and helped Granny with hymn books and general stewarding. We also went out into the cloisters as well during the quieter parts to run around with some other toddlers.  And after the Service Elliott met Cannon Jeremy Davies who was really pleased and interested to meet him.

Then it was back to Granny and Grandpa's to open the main presents. Again Elliott was pretty good at unwrapping his own presents and seemed very aware that these were presents for him. The main presents he got were a took kit (toy one) from me and a marble run from Granny and Grandpa. But he also got lots of books, some gruffalo learning and rhyming cards, a Thomas jigsaw, a(nother) little football, DVDs, more cars, some clothes, etc - from me, Granny and Grandpa and various relatives.

We set up the marble run and played with that until lunch which he seemed to really enjoy.

Then it was lunch during which he sat with us (on a cushion) and behaved really well - he even helped pull his cracker, though he wouldn't keep his hat on for much longer than a minute.

Then it was time for his nap.

Then when he woke up we played with the tool kit, the marble run, did the Thomas jigsaw, etc and had a lot of fun playing with lots of new toys. At one point, while we were looking at the books, he also read The Very Hungry Caterpillar to us all and it was very accurate (and very sweet).

Bracknell

Sleep

Elliott woke at 7.00am.

He had a long afternoon nap around 2pm for about 2 hours and went straight to bed when asked!

He went to bed at 8pm with no problems.

Food

He had Bran flakes for breakfast (his choice).

He had chicken breast, peas and potato for lunch - no joy with the peas as ever, though some success with potatos. He had a strawberry yoghurt for tea.

He had some rolls for tea.

He also had snacks of bread sticks.

Toilet

Elliott had 3 "dirty" nappies throughout the day, which were runny again, though became more solid by the 3rd. He also has some nappy rash from all the runny poos so have been using sudocream.

He sat on his potty well before bath time but there was no product. I didn't pursue the potty during the day because of the runny nature of the poos.

Naughtiness

Elliott had no time outs again today and was well behaved getting in his push chair when asked and napping when asked.

However he got quite upset at bath time for a while and I couldn't understand why - though I suspect it might be that the water stung against his nappy rash.

Activities

In the morning we:
  • played with cars
  • watched Kerwhizz (again!)
  • did some colouring
  • banged the drum and played with the other musical instruments (including Daddy's acoustic guitar)
We then went to Bracknell for a mooch around the shops and to buy some Christmas presents. He was really well behaved, stayed in his buggy for most of the time and when out held my hand. He got quite excited in the Tesco home shop as there were lots of toys and books.

In the afternoon we had a really relaxed time at home playing with lots of toys and watching "hedgehogs".

We didn't go swimming today as I was a little worried about the runny poo potential and his nappy rash.

Christmas concert

Sleep

Elliott woke at 6.30am.

He had a long afternoon nap around 1.30pm for about 2 hours with only a 5 minute period of complaining.

He went to bed at 8pm with no problems.

Food

He had Cheerios for breakfast and I attempted to feed him banana - this did not go well and I ended up eating most of it myself.

He had sausage and potato for lunch.

He had some crumpets with margarine for tea.

He also had snacks of bread sticks.

Toilet

Elliott had 2 "dirty" nappies during the morning, both of which were runny again - however he did not produce another "dirty" nappy after 11am for the whole day.

He sat on his potty well during morning nappy changes and before bath time but there was no product on any occasion.

Naughtiness

Elliott had no time outs again today and was very well behaved throghout.

Activities

In the morning we:
  • played with trains
  • watched Kerwhizz
  • did some alphabet cards - spoke to nursery and we're doing phonetic pronunciation (well we will be when he starts recognising the letters better)
  • played with the sponge football - mainly throwing
In the afternoon we went to Henley for the Christmas concert by Henley Symphony Orchestra with Dave, Jo, Alice and Fi. Elliott was quite shy and clingy at first as we were in a church with lots of other parents and toddlers. But when the orchestra started playing he looked around and watched them and warmed up. The concert lasted for about half an hour with Christmas songs (Jingle Bells) and other children's "favourites" (Teddy Bears picnic) and he did some jigging - though no singing. We also bought along plinky, plonks teddy and a shaker and he was enjoying shaking them along. After the concert we all went for a coffee, pink juice and cake and then it was back for tea, bath, milk and bed time.

Christmas family fun day

Sleep

Elliott had an average afternoon nap around 1.30pm for about an hour.

He went to bed at 8pm with no problems.

Food

He had Weetabix for breakfast and I attempted to feed him some orange segments,  but he was not keen!

He had plaice goujons, chips and a pea or two for lunch in a pub in Wokingham with Granny, Grandpa and me. He ate all his fish and chips, but only a few concealed peas. He also eat all his fish first and then his chips afterwards..

He had one slice of toast with margarine for tea.

He also had snacks of biscuit and bread sticks.

Toilet

Elliott had 3 "dirty" nappies during the day, each of which were quite runny - however he showed no other signs of feeling ill.

Unfortunately did not get much chance to do potty training as we were out and about for so much of the day.

Naughtiness

Elliott had no time-outs at all and we really well behaved all day. He did get a bit fractious after lunch, but he went to sleep quite easily and after his sleep he was well behaved again.

Activities

In the morning we went to The Look Out family fun day with Dave, Alice and Fi. Granny and Grandpa also joined us during the morning.

There was loads to do there as ever, plus Father Christmas, face painting, etc. We went to visit Father Christmas at the start but Elliott was very shy and I don't think looked at Father Christmas at all during the visit - however it was very early after arriving and as the morning continued he became more at ease and confident, so maybe if we'd saved the visit for later on he would have been more responsive. Anyway we got a book for Christmas from our visit - still to be opened.

We then spent the next few hours on the exhibits with Fi and Alice. In particular Elliott liked the hot air balloon that's controlled by pressing buttons, an exhibit where you use snooker sized balls to orbit around holes before they eventually disappear down the holes and a light show where lights in the floor light up until they are covered - he loved jumping on the lights with his feet.

We also had a quick play in the adventure play ground.

Then it was off to the pub for lunch.

In the afternoon we went shopping in Reading with Granny and Grandpa during which he was really well behaved. We also used the train to go from Wokingham to Reading and back and he was really excited to be in the train.

Finally after we got back from Reading we did some reading and playing with cars before bath and bed time.

Henley

Sleep

Elliott had a good nap this afternoon for 2 hours from around 1pm, however he got out of bed a few times before finally settling down.

He went to bed at 8pm with no problems.

Food

He had Bran Flakes for breakfast.

He had rolls with butter and marmite for lunch.

He had fish fingers, pototoes and peas for tea - however he didn't eat many peas. He had a cheese biscuit for dessert.

He also had snacks of biscuits and I tried him with some apple, but he didn't seem interested.

Toilet

Elliott had 1 "dirty" nappies during the day in the morning.

He sat on his potty mostly during each nappy change and before bath time but there was no product on any occasion.

Naughtiness

Elliott had no time outs at all. However before his afternoon nap when he was getting out of bed I had to count to 3 a few times, but each time on 3 he ran back into bed!

Activities

In the morning we went swimming which he seemed to really enjoy. There's a baby waterslide at Carnvial Pool shaped like an elephant that he loves. There are also 2 jacuzzi pools that he likes the bubbles in. And when we're in the toodler pool I hold underneath his tummy and he splashes around with legs and feet as though swimming. Unfortunately Carnival Pool is also quite cold so quite soon after we started Elliott was shivering a little. He didn't want to stop, but I thought considering the shivering it was best. However I may buy a little wet suit for future as he was a little upset to stop so soon.

In the afternoon we went to Henley. There is a brilliant little toy shop there called Bagatelle, so we spent some time in there playing with toys and I ended up buying him a "black car". We also had a nice walk around Henley / coffee and pink juice and there were nice Christmas decorations around that he really enjoyed.

During the day we also watched some Octonauts and Kerwhizz, did some alphabet cards, played with balls (a lot) and trains / cars / etc.

Clown about

Sleep

Elliott woke at 6am (boo).

He had a short afternoon nap around 1.30pm for about 40 minutes and took himself up for this nap! He then slept again for about 1 and a half hours in the car on the way back to Wokingham from 4pm.

He went to bed at 8pm with no problems.

Food

He had Rice Crispies for breakfast.

He had fish fingers, (very small portion of) oven chips and peas for lunch - however he didn't eat many peas. He had a cheese biscuit for dessert.

He insisted on shreddies for tea.

He also had snacks of biscuits and I tried him with a banana, but he didn't seem interested.

Toilet

Elliott had 2 "dirty" nappies during the day, one in the morning and one just after lunch.

He sat on his potty mostly during each nappy change - though did refuse once - and before bath time but there was no product on any occasion.

Naughtiness

Elliott had no time outs at all, though before we left and after his short nap he was beginning to get a little manic and silly! Fortunately sleeping on the car journey home meant he really calmed down.

Activities

In the morning we went to Clown About which he really enjoyed. He even tried the fast slide for the first time with me there. I think he enjoyed this as he went back again for more, but he seemed to enjoy the ball pits and big exercise balls more. He also ran laps around the whole place a lot and really quickly.

When we were at home in the morning he also
  • played with castle toys again
  • made a train and racing car out of home made play dough (very imaginative!)
  • watched Postman Pat (bouncy castle episode, which appears to be current favourite)
  • played with trains
  • "read" various books
In the afternoon he played catch with Granny for a while (still can't quite catch, but think he's getting there) and as already stated got a little hyper.

When we got back to Wokingham we watched some "lion" (Madagascar 2), had tea and had a long, fun bath.

Charlie

Sleep

Elliott woke at 7am.

He had a long afternoon nap around 1pm for about 2 hours and took himself up for his own nap!

He went to bed at 8pm with no problems.

Food

He had Weetabix for breakfast and I attempted to feed him some orange segments,  but he was not keen!

He had a Roast Lamb meal for lunch - however he only ate the lamb and a few bits of potato (and some brocholli sneaked through behind the lamb!) I did attempt to get him to try the carrott but this only really helped feeding him potato instead. He had a cheese biscuit for dessert.

He had two slices of toast with margarine for tea.

He also had snacks of biscuit and bread sticks.

Toilet

Elliott had 1 "dirty" nappy during the morning.

He sat on his potty well during each nappy change and before bath time but there was no product on any occasion.

Naughtiness

Elliott had to have a time out at lunch time to encourage him to eat more of his lunch. This did work. Also later at the Sladens he didn't want to give Charlie back his racing cars, but after asking him if he'd rather give the racing cars back of have a time-out Elliott gave the cars back and said thank you to Charlie for letting him play with them.

Activities

In the morning we:
  • played with castle toys
  • watched Postman Pat
  • did some learning with the alphabet cards - he enjoyed saying the things he saw on the cards and played along with "a is for" by repeating, but I'm sure didn't really understand
  • played with the sponge football - mainly kicking
  • went to the park in Fordingbridge for a bit - lots of running around and he was really giggling hard when we started kicking fallen leaves - he also told some ducks to "get back in the water", which they did!
  • made the big ice cream with the right colours again
  • read a Thomas story
In the afternoon we visited the Sladens. Elliott had a really good time, and was playing lots directly with Charlie. Poppy also joined in for a while and they all went upstairs and climbed on top of Poppy's new bunk bed where they were playing together. Elliott was mainly playing with cars and trains with Charlie, but they also bonded over a shared love of the film "Cars" which they both found each other loved. Also at one point Elliott was telling Charlie he was going to be a moo cow in his nursery play and Charlie was telling Elliott he was going t be a sheep in his, which was very sweet.

Shopping

Sleep

Elliott woke at 7.20am.

He had a short afternoon nap around 1pm for about an hour.

He went to bed at 8pm with no problems.

Food

He had 2 servings of Crunchy Nut Clusters for breakfast.

He had a marmite sandwich for lunch.

He had spaghetti bolognese for tea - but he took a little persuading to eat this, though did end up eating a good per-centage of it.

He also had snacks of biscuit and bread sticks.

Toilet

Elliott had 3 "dirty" nappies during today!

He sat on his potty well during each nappy change and before bath time but there was no product on any occasion.

Naughtiness

Elliott was really good all day on the whole. I did mention time-out as an alternative to not eating his spaghetti bolognese, but he started eating when I asked him which he'd prefer so it wasn't needed.
Activities

We went to Salisbury out of town Tescos in the morning for a while with Mum where we bought him a new hat a gloves, some new socks and a new pair of racing car slippers. We had some pink juice in the cafe while there.

After his lunchtime nap we went into Salisbury for a bit to do some Christmas shopping and we bought him some alphabet cards from Early Learning to help him learn the alphabet.

Around all this there was a lot of playing with trains / big car / sponge football (some throwing with me, some kicking with me). He also made the "big ice cream" on the colour board a few times, each time getting all the colours right in their slots. He then moved on to a multi coloured fish template and got the colours wrong, but I think he was doing this on purpose as he was joking with me as he got them wrong.
