Tea with Charlie and sleep over with Harry

General

Elliott said he'd had a good day at school today. He was also very good at Charlie's house where he ate all his fish finger tea and very good at Harry Jenkins house where he played nicely with Harry and Jack and went to bed well.

Activities

After school Elliott went to Charlie's for tea where I think you caught up with him anyway. After I picked him up around 6.20pm we went straight to Harry Jenkins' house for the sleep over and he and Harry had a great time playing and reading to each other, and playing with Jack.

Star Wars picture

General

Elliott was very good after school today. When I picked him up from school Mrs Mahmood brought him out separately so she could tell me how brilliant he'd been all afternoon and what a fantastic Star Wars picture he'd drawn - it is really good, it has lots of the characters on with their names written in good handwriting above them -  we've put it up in his room after we talked about it and how good it is. He had noodles for lunch.

Activities

After school we went swimming which went well and his showering with shower gel is getting really good (he's putting his own head under the shower now right up to the end of his fringe). After we got home we had cereal for tea and played with Star Wars toys while we watched Return of the Jedi. He also helped finish write lots of thank you cards for Christmas presents which he wasn't too keen on at first, but did really nicely in the end. He did excellent reading before bed as well.

Design a teddy

General

Elliott was really good after school again today. And he slept in this morning until 7.30am - I actually had to wake him up so we could get to school on time. Interestingly his glow lamp was off and we agreed that if he wakes up in the morning he might try switching off the glow lamp and seeing if he can get back to sleep (I doubt he'll do this, but we talked about it). He said he'd been good at school today. He also has 2 sheet of paper with an outline of a teddy on them which all Year 1 and Year 2 have to colour in a design for by 10th February (I think). We started one tonight and I've put the other in his book bag with his homework for you guys.

Activities

After school we did a very quick food shop at the orange shop on the way to swimming. We decided to approach this as secret agents which seemed to work quite well and he was really well behaved (and also whispering which worked). Then we did swimming which went well although afterwards he said Kate (his teacher) hadn't been happy with how he jumped in (they practice jumping in toes first) because he'd used his knees first. I didn't spot this but we've agreed to practice swimming again when we can. He still seemed to have enjoyed the lesson lots. After we got home we did more cycling practice (at his request) where he picked up pretty much where he'd left off and we practiced turning. We only did 20 minutes or so but he was getting really confident and I think he might be asking Andy to help him practice this weekend if it's possible. Then we did some reading (he has a yellow and blue book now), had a bagel for tea and he did some excellent writing with a birthday card for Grandpa. Then he did some teddy colouring (a start) before bed time and more Faraway Tree.

Bike It Elliott

General

Elliott was good after school today and he had jacket potato with cheese for lunch at school. He did say he'd been sent to the back of the queue at school but said he hadn't done anything (suspect he had). He also said Mrs Parfitt had been back but I didn't see her at drop off or pick up so I will ask around.

Activities

After school we spent about an hour practicing cycling on the tarmac outside the flat's garages. he did absolutely brilliantly proclaiming that he had gone from Stage 2 to Stage 20. By the end he could cycle in a straight line on his own for about 15 metres and we were practicing turning, but it was getting quite late and quite dark. I think he would have carried on if he could though and he seemed to really enjoy it and was talking about how he'd done Stage 1 with Andy (not quite sure what that entailed but he was clearly a lot more confident and requested practicing). He also read both his new school books in the car on the way home very easily. He had a bagel for tea and bed time went very well.

Positional awareness

General

Elliott was good for most of today. He even waited until 6.30am to wake me. Unfortunately he was a little hyper after our visit to Andrea's parents house and didn't calm down very quickly when asked so he had to go to his room to calm down. He did then apologise very well and explained what it was he was apologising for.

Activities

We went to football training in the morning and he did really well. They were all much more focused today and they played 2 games, 1 in zones to start understanding positions a bit better, and 1 free form as usual but the positional awareness is getting better and better. He also scored a good goal in the final game after tackling someone and taking a touch.

After a packed lunch we did some homework (numbers - how many tens and units in numbers over ten - eg in 27 there are two 10s and seven units) and some thank you cards. Then we headed off to Andrea's parents house to see them and her brother, his partner Harry and Jack. This was good fun, although very hectic and it wasn't a huge surprise he was a bit hyper when we left. We had Spaghetti Bolognese for tea and bath and bed time went very smoothly.

Cooking a cake in the fridge

General

Elliott was very good today.

Activities

We had a lazy morning watching Return Of The Jedi and playing with Star Wars Lego. We headed in to town after we got up for shopping and some lunch - Elliott had a Hot Dog in the pub with chips.

After we got home Elliott made a cake with Andrea (and me a little bit) with the shopping we'd bought - but it was a cake you cool in the fridge rather than bake in the oven. Elliott helped really nicely, stirring and sieving, and found it very funny that the cake went in the fridge rather than the oven. We had a packed tea and then he did some very good reading before bath and bed time.

Shopping list monitor

General

Elliott was good after school today and he had fish and chips for lunch at school. He got a smiley stamp for his homework which he was very pleased about. When we were shopping and he could only afford one toy with his pocket money instead of the two he wanted he did get upset, but he was much less stroppy and he did understand the logic.

Activities

We went shopping straight after school and he was really good while we shopped for the food - he even crossed each item off our list once we'd put it in the trolley. After we got home we played with his new toy (a small Beast Hunter's Transformer) and the fact he couldn't get the other toy was clearly forgotten. Bath and bed time was very smooth.

Star Wars top trumps

General

Elliott was very good after school today and he had pizza for lunch at school.

Activities

Swimming after school went very well and then we played Star Wars top trumps when we got home.

Return of swimming

General

Elliott was very good after school today. He did say his day at school had been good and bad and he came home in his PE track suit with soaked and muddy uniform trousers and jumper in a bag as Cody had pushed him in to a big puddle while they played. I asked him more about the game (Star Wars based) and it sounded like an accident. He also said Cody had sat next to him in classes all day and he'd found it difficult to focus - Mrs Parfitt unfortunately was off sick today. He had a vegetarian burger for lunch. His voice is going as well but he said he didn't feel poorly and seems totally fine apart from this.

Activities

After school he had his first swimming lesson of the term which went really well. After we got home we had a packed tea and then he did some really brilliant reading with his school book "Everyone Got Wet" and wrote "a Jedi uses the force" in his notebook. Bed time was very smooth and he seemed quite tired, falling asleep as I read him some more of The Faraway Tree.

Antiques Fair

General

Elliott was a bit restless today. He didn't do anything really bad or behave really badly at any stage, but for most of the day he was distracted, or walking funnily, or making lots of noise, etc. We did have a chat about this and he did calm down a little. His cold seems a lot better in terms of coughing, but he seems more bunged up than before although running around in the morning I think helped clear things out a bit.

Activities

We went to football in the morning. There were only 6 of them today so that was really good and he had lots of attention. He learnt how to do a step over and in the game at the end he did really well - he scored a good goal, did really well setting up another goal and also did a goal saving tackle (although this hurt his foot a bit, but when I explained he'd saved a goal he was proud). He did get upset at one stage because (not from school) Adam pushed in to the queue for one of the exercises in front of him, but he calmed down quite quickly and it was true that (not from school) Adam had pushed in. We also got a free Woodley Wanderers boot bag. On the way back from football we popped in to an Antiques Fair in the school next to where we live (St Crispins) and we found some old Star Wars toys going cheap, so we bought an old X-Wing Fighter and a Jabba The Hut figure.

After a Roast Chicken lunch we went into Wokingham with Andrea and wandered around some shops before having some tea (he had a smoothie and some millionaire shortbread). Then we went home and played with Star Wars toys and watched some Deadly Pole To Pole.

Monsters Verses Aliens

General

Elliott was good today. He was a bit of a handful while I made tea but he did calm down when asked.

Activities

We had a lazy morning playing with the new spaceship Uncle Glynn bought and we watched Monsters Verses Aliens.

After a "packed" lunch we went swimming at Carnival Pool where we used his new float to do some practice for swimming lessons as well as having lots of fun. We popped in to Andrea's parents on the way home to say hello and then had Chicken Fajitas for tea (his being plainer than ours).

Lego Club Jr magazine

General

Elliott was really good after we got home.

Activities

After we got home we played with Lego and the new digger he had from Uncle Glynn. We also had a look at the new Lego Club Jr magazine that had arrived with lots of activities to do in it.
