A day out with Thomas

General

Elliott was good for all of today. He was visibly tired towards the end of the afternoon and had a nap on the train on it's way back to Alton. He also went to bed nicely slightly earlier than normal 7.30pm bedtime.

Activities

In the morning we drove to Alton with Andrea and met up with Granny and Grandpa. The first thing we did was buy some new black shoes for school and he was really well behaved having his feet measured and trying on shoes. Then we went to Alton Station and got on the Watercress Line steam trains for their Thomas day. This was really good and we had lots of train rides, watched a children's entertainer, did some colouring in and playing, had a temporary tattoo of Diesel and had a nice picnic lunch.

At the end of the afternoon we left the Thomas event, said goodbye to Granny and Grandpa and went to Andrea's flat for a quick tea before back to Daddy and Elliott's house for bath and bed time.

Left foot

General

Elliott was good for all of today. There was a little procrastination at bed time, but he sped up when I asked him to firmly.

Activities

In the morning we had a lazy time and went shopping at Tescos where I bought him a new Sarge ("Army Jeep") as there was one there and he was really good.

After lunch we went to Mad House where he had lots of fun and also did a lot of kicking with his left foot which was brilliant.

Chipwrecked

General

Elliott was good for all of today.

Activities

In the morning we went to Kid's Club at Bracknell Odeon where we watched "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked" with Harry and Andrea. This went really well and he seemed to really enjoy the film (apart from some of the singing). He did say he was afraid it would be too dark and too loud before we got there, but I told him it was a special quiet cinema and he was happy with the sound during the film. He got a little scared by one scene that involved a Piranha, but he and Harry helped each other (it was a "U" certificate anyway!)

After lunch we went to Andrea's parent's house and Harry's Daddy, Mummy and baby brother all arrived during the afternoon. There was a lot of playing outside including some hide and seek and "what's the time Mr Wolf". Plus also some playing inside.with toy animals. He even swapped a lorry for a dragon for a few weeks with Harry. Then it was back off home to Reading and he went to bed nicely again.

Dinton Pastures

General

Elliott was good for almost all of today. He did have a teary strop when it was time to leave Dinton Pastures so we had a time out. However apart from that he was really good and went to bed nicely too.

Activities

In the morning we had a lazy time and also went to Tescos where he was really well behaved. We watched some Penguins of Madagascar cartoon and played with lots of cars.

Then in the afternoon we went to Dinton Pastures with Andrea and her nephew Harry. This was really good fun and the boys played in the playground and played some football and "Olympics". He played very nicely and the only bad moment was when it was time to go and he didn't want to go he had a teary strop, but a time out put paid to that (eventually). We then went back to Andrea's flat where he stayed over with Harry, though they slept in different rooms. He was good at bedtime and played with Harry nicely in the flat.

Olympic Handball

General

Elliott was good for most of today, but he did get a little bit upset when we lost his Sarge ("Army Jeep") toy in The Basketball Arena. At one point he asked if we could leave the Olympics and go to Tescos. However the upset didn't last long and we know that Sarge lives at the Olympics now. It was also a late night so he was a little hyperactive towards the end of our journey back, but he was well behaved considering the train home was very crowded and he had to sit on the floor.

Activities

The journey to the Olympic Park was very exciting and involved different trains and tubes. When we got to the Park it was massive and very busy and Elliott was a bit overwhelmed at first. However after a quick pink juice orange he soon got into the swing of things and we had a look around at the different venues and spectacular views.

After a while we made our way to The Basketball Arena for the Handball match between Sweden and Denmark. The Arena was big and they were playing lots of music and building everyone up inside with lots of lights and an MC. At first Elliott was a bit subdued by the noise but he began to get into it and started to clap along,. Then the game began and he watched interested for about 20 minutes. At that point he began to lose interest which wasn't surprising as we'd arrived 40 minutes before throw off. So we went outside for half time early which worked out well as the food and merchandise stalls around the arena were deserted and we had the chance to buy a new Wenlock as a souvenir (and to make up for losing Sarge earlier). We got back inside in time for the end of the cheer leader half time gymnastic display which he really enjoyed. Then we watched the whole of the second half and he enjoyed it and we cheered for Sweden who won. After the match we had a bite to eat on our way out of the park (sandwiches from a Deli style shop) and then we made our way out and home with Elliott on my shoulders. The journey back was crowded but Elliott was well behaved. By the time we got back and he went to sleep he was very tired but happy.

Marwell Activity Centre

General

Elliott was really well behaved all day. He has been coughing again a little bit today though.

Activities

In the morning we had a lazy time and we played with castles, cars and trains. We also watched some Shaun the Sheep.

After lunch we went to Marwell Activity Centre on the way back to Reading where there was soft play and outdoor an outdoor playground with a trampoline. He really enjoyed this and ran around lots. When we got back we had tea at Andrea's house before a really smooth bedtime.

New Forest

General

Elliott was good for all of today.

Activities

In the morning we went to the New Forest with Andrea, Chas and Billy Loft and Alex and Lucas Dawson. We found a pond where we fed the ducks and also went for a walk through the forest, including finding some logs which the boys took it in turns to clamber over. Then we found a pub for lunch.

After lunch the Lofts and the Dawsons left to go home and we went to RIngwood to do some shopping. Then we went home and had a lazy rest of the day playing with cars, trains and castles and watching the Olympics.

Dad's on beach patrol

General

Elliott was good for all of today, although towards the end when he was tired he decided he didn't like bubble bath and was stubborn about getting into his bath. The only real downside of the day was that Elliott fell over in his shorts on the concrete beach front and grazed both his knees. He was quite upset about this as it was a bit painful for a while, but was soon back up and running around.

Activities

In the morning we went to Bournemouth with Andrea and Chas and Billy Loft. We went to Alum Chine where there is a playground, cafe and stretch of beach that is normally less busy than more popular places. The weather was a little over cast but the sun peeped through regularly. Elliott and Billy started by playing in the play ground for a while. They did a lot of paddling and collecting sea in their buckets which they then filled a hole they'd dug in the beach with. They did this and some splashing about and creating channels for ages. Then Matt and Harry Higgins arrived and helped build some sand castles. Finally Alex and Lucas Dawson arrived just in time for lunch and we had a packed lunch of rolls, flap jacks and biscuits in the play ground.

After lunch we played on the beach for a bit longer and then travelled back to Fordingbridge where we went to the park and played on the slides, see-saw, swings, etc there. We also played football and rugby and some racing games like in the Olympics. After the park Matt and Harry Higgins went home and the rest of us went back to Downton - where I'm house sitting for Granny and Grandpa who are on holiday - for tea, bath time and sleeping.
