Doctor Who theme tune

General

Elliott was really good after school today and had sausage and mash for lunch.

Activities

After school we went home and Elliott had ham sandwiches before swimming. His swimming lesson went well and he had his normal shower afterwards. After we got home he read more of his Captain Underpants school book and practiced more on his guitar doing the Doctor Who theme. Then he brushed his teeth and went to bed.

England verses Slovakia

General

Elliott was good after school today and had macaroni cheese for lunch.

Activities

After school we went home and Elliott practiced more of his Doctor Who guitar part and had ham sandwiches before football training. Football training was quiet and Bertie, Fabio and Jack all came. In the first half they did a passing exercise with Sally that was so confusing I'm not sure Bertie, Fabio or Jack knew what they were meant to be doing. In the second half of training they had a game but unfortunately Bertie and Fabio got a little too in to it at times and I think could have been more inclusive for the boys. After training Elliott played outside with Amelia for 20 minutes before he had a quick bath in time for the England verses Slovakia game. We watched the first 30 minutes of the game together and he was making a new Doctor Who comic on the iPad at the same time - but the football grabbed more of his attention than it normally does.

Father's Day

General

Elliott was very good today.

Activities

We had a lazy morning today during which we played Minecraft, watched 2 episodes of Doctor Who and he did two lots of his Maths times tables homework. He also gave me my pop up Father's Day card which I really liked. He'd also made me a homemade Doctor Who Father's Day card and a make your own card that he'd made at his childminders. I like all my cards. Due to his late night last night he also had a morning bath. Then we popped to Tescos to buy some food and he and Andrea bought me "The Force Awakens" on DVD as my Father's Day present. After we got home we had ham sandwiches for lunch.

After lunch he asked me if he could see and try my violin as I'd promised him at the children's concert he could (rather than queue up there). After the violin came out and he'd had a go he asked me to play the Doctor Who theme, so I did, and then I showed him how to play the bass line to the Doctor Who theme on his little acoustic guitar and we played the theme together. He got quite in to this and he kept practicing playing his part on the guitar. Then we got his bike and out and he rode (while we walked) over to Andrea's Dad's house where Graham Jenkins, Babara and Harry and Jack were and we all went to The Three Frogs for a Father's Day tea. He had chicken nuggets, chips, beans, garlic bread and an Oreo sundae and ate all his food. He also had a lot of fun playing with Harry and Jack in the pub garden. After the meal we went back home and he finished off his final lot of times tables homework before we did his home learning (which was researching pilgrimages). After his home learning he brushed his teeth and got ready for bed without a bath (as he'd had one earlier in the day) and then he read more of his Captain Underpants school book before it was time to go to sleep.

Choir concert with Reading Male Voice Choir

General

Elliott was good today apart from breaking his water bottle before the football tournament by throwing it about for fun. When I told him we'd have to buy a new one with his pocket money because it had been an accident that could have been avoided if he'd been more sensible he got quite updset. And then after the tournament finished he got upset about this again and told me it was unfair. So I had to do quite a lot of explaining about why it's not unfair to teach him to take responsibility of things he owns that are important now he'd getting older.

Activities

The morning was taken up with the football tournament which he enjoyed (apart from the water bottle incident) despite the Panthers losing all their games. I thought he played pretty well again and looked confident again and was trying good skills. I'm not sure he was totally engaged with the tournament in the way he has been in recent games but I think that's just because of the long, drawn out nature of these tournaments. After the tournament we headed home and he got changed before we had ham sandwiches for lunch.

After lunch he made a Doctor Who comic on the iPad before it was time to drop him off for choir practice at school with the Reading Male Voice Choir. After practice we raced home for tea which was homemade Turkey burgers and chips which he liked. Then he got changed in to the clothes for his concert before we went back to Hawkedon for the concert. I really enjoyed the concert (although I thought the Reading Male Voice Choir could have done less songs without the children involved). Also I thought his Year 3 choir were really good:

After the concert we hurried home as it was late and he changed in to his pajamas and went straight to bed.

Multi player Minecraft

General

Elliott was very good after school today.

Activities

After school we went home and Elliott read some of a new "Captain Underpants" book he'd got from the school library. Then he drew a picture of Shelly the Blue Peter tortoise in space to send to Blue Peter to see if he can now get his sliver badge. After he'd finished his picture we linked up Minecraft on different devices and played Minecraft together as the latest update allows people to play together. I wasn't very good but he helped show me what to do. Then he had ham sandwiches for tea before bath time. After bath time we played a bit more Minecraft together and then he read some more before bed time.

England verses Wales

General

Elliott was really good after school today. He said he'd really enjoyed watching the England verses Wales game at school and was very pleased England won.

Activities

After I picked him up from the childminders we talked about the football and then watched Blue Peter while we had sandwiches for tea. Then he had an early bath before we played Sonic Racing against each other on different devices (he can now beat me even when I'm trying my best). Then he read some of his school book "Captain Underpants" before he cleaned his teeth and went to bed.

General

Elliott was good after school today.

Activities

After school we went home and he had a ham roll and a sausage in a roll for tea. After tea we went to swimming and after swimming he finished drawing a Doctor Who picture he'd started drawing at school. Then he played with his Minecraft toys and Lego before it was time to clean his teeth and go to bed.

Butterfly

General

Elliott was a bit up and down after school today. I think he might have been a bit hot and bothered because of the weather. He got a little upset before swimming because we were running a little late and then a bit upset after swimming because he needed a cap for school and wanted one of the ones at your house.

Activities

After school we went home and watched an episode of Doctor Who before swimming. Then we set off for swimming but because of traffic we arrived a little late and he was a bit nervous about starting after the class had started. However after some persuading he went for it and then really enjoyed the rest of the lesson. They looked like they were practicing Butterfly in the pool. After swimming he had his shower and then we headed to Sports Direct in Bracknell to get a cap for school. He was upset again at first as he wanted a cap from your house but we got a new Superman cap and he seemed quite happy with that. After we got home he had ham sandwiches for tea and we finished watching the episode of Doctor Who. Then he read some of his Spiderman origins story before he brushed his teeth and went to bed.

Treasure Island

General

Elliott was really good after school today. He had macaroni cheese for lunch and said he had enjoyed going back to school after half term.

Activities

After school we went home and he had toast and rasins for tea. We also watched some Doctor Who and he read some of his school book which is a graphic novel version of Treasure Island. Then we headed off to football training which went well and they were practicing passing with right and left feet and Sally made it in to a competition. They also played a game (4 a side) at the end and he played really well and he seems so much more confident playing at the moment. After training we went home and he had a quick bath before cleaning his teeth and bed time.

Funharmonics concert

General

Elliott was good again today. He did get shy again when we went to the concert at the South Bank as before the concert children could try playing instruments and he wanted to try a brass instrument, but by the time we got to the front of the queue he suddenly got very shy and said he didn't want to any more. So we left the queue and about a minute later he got upset and said he did in fact want to try an instrument again. But by that time we had to queue again and he then got upset about having to queue again. So we talked about how it was actually unfair on the other people in the queue if he just went straight to the front again. Anyway after a while he calmed down and we queued again and he did get a chance to try playing a trumpet before the concert began. On our way home we talked again about how most times when he gets shy and then he does try whatever it is he really enjoys it so it's always a good idea to try things if he wants to.

Activities

In the morning we headed off to London on the train for the concert at the South Bank centre. He enjoyed the train ride and when we got to Waterloo we walked to the South Bank and he was excited to see London landmarks like the London Eye, the Shard and the Gerkin. When we got to the South Bank he tried playing a trumpet with a trumpet player there to advise him:

Then Granny joined us for the concert itself which was really good and was a mixture of short orchestral music inspired by A Midsummer Night's Dream and acting out the story of A Midsummer Night's Dream using the actual Shakespearean lines. He had his Doctor Who annual with him so he glanced at that during the performance but his attention definitely got caught a lot, especially by the louder, faster music and the bits of the story where there was fighting and shouting. It was quite hard to concentrate at times as there were a lot of younger children too so a lot of noise but he talked about what had happened afterwards so must have taken it in. After the concert we wandered over the river to Pizza Express in The Strand for lunch and he had dough balls, pasta burro and a chocolate brownie.

After lunch we said goodbye to Granny and then, as we were close to Trafalgar Square, we went to look at the Van Gogh paintings in the National Gallery:

He enjoyed seeing the paintings but enjoyed looking around the gallery shop even more and I think definitely prefers drawing to looking at paintings at the moment. After the gallery we made the short walk to Covent Garden and had a look in the Forbidden Planet comic shop which has lots of comics and also lots of comic related toys and goodies. We both enjoyed looking around the shop and there were plenty of good ideas for future presents (for both of us). After about 40 minutes in Forbidden Planet we headed back to Waterloo and he really enjoyed looking at the London skyline from the bridge over the Thames again:

After we got home we had crumpets for tea and then it was time for a quick bath, teeth and bed time.

Wokingham skate park

General

Elliott was really good today.

Activities

It was good to hear that football went very well again today and it was a shame to miss it but after lunch time when I picked him up he was very happy with how he and the team had played. When we got home Harry and Jack Jenkins had arrived with Graham and Barbara and he spent some time showing Jack and Harry his Doctor Who toys and showing them Doctor Who facts in his Doctor Who books. Then we all headed out to Wokingham skate part where Elliott enjoyed lots of scootering:

He did some really good jumps on his scooter:

After an hour or so in the skate park Harry and Jack Jenkins went home and he asked to do some football training in the garden, so we went out and practiced passing and shooting for a bit. Then it was time for tea and Elliott had burgers with rice. After tea he had his bath and then we looked at how an orchestra is made up with a cut out and position set before we go and see the orchestra tomorrow. Then he read some of his X-Men origins book before brushing his teeth and going to bed.

Zoggs Oceans of Fun

General

Elliott was good today. He did get very shy when we first arrived at Carnival Pool for Zoggs Oceans of Fun swimming event but one of the organisers, Ben, was really good with him and got him involved and as soon as he got involved he really enjoyed it and made friends. There were also a couple of times during the day when I thought he was about to get upset about something disappointing but he managed to pull himself out of it and get on with something else.

Activities

In the morning we went to Carnival Pool for the Zoggs Oceans of Fun swimming event that One Life had given him a free ticket to after he'd missed a few weeks swimming lessons during the pool refurbishment. He was really nervous at first and didn't want to join in and seemed especially worried about the fact that there were a couple of Olympians there. However one of the helpers there, Ben, was really good with him and managed to get him into one of the groups and as soon as he started taking part he didn't look back. The way the event worked was that the children were split into groups and then rotated around stations with expert adults where they tried different swimming related activities - for example there was a station where they played water polo, a station where they tried water gymnastics (with an Olympian synchronised swimmer) and a station where they learnt how to be a life guard. He was especially pleased that when he was at a station where they did racing he came 3rd in his group and was beaten only by one other bigger boy and the Olympian. He also got a medal for taking part. So by the time the event finished (after 2 and a half hours) he had really enjoyed it and liked the Olympians afterall. After the swimming we went to Sports Direct in Braknell to get a new swimming bag (as his old one has now completely split) and then we went home where we had ham rolls for lunch.

During and after lunch we watched some Doctor Who Confidential (the programmes about the making of Doctor Who) and then he wrote a script for an episode of Doctor Who for us to film. Unfortunately we found the Flipcam was out of battery and needed charging up so we'd have to do the filming another day. I thought he might get really upset but after a brief second of looking disappointed he decided we should go outside in to the flat's garden and practice football. So we did that and he practiced passing and shooting and some one on one dribbling and after a while Amilia came to join us and we played football together. Then I left them to it for a bit and went to start getting tea ready. We had chicken fajitas for tea and after tea he read some of his Doctor Who choose your own adventure book. He didn't need a bath as he'd had a shower after swimming so he brushed his teeth and then watched some iPad in bed before it was time to go to sleep.

Spiral workshop

General

Elliott was really good today and, although he had a bad dream after Goosebumps in the end, he was in a good mood all day.

Activities

We had a lazy morning watching Doctor Who and playing Doctor Who with toys and on an app.

After lunch we went to Wokingham Library for a spiral workshop (which meant making a hanging spiral out of polystyrene strips and painting and decorating it). He was the only child there so was a bit shy at first but soon enjoyed getting all the attention and did a good job making his spiral which he painted red, blue and yellow and added a Tardis decoration too:

After the library we went shopping in Tescos and then went back to the library to pick up the spiral and borrow some Doctor Who books. Then we went to The Gig House for tea and Elliott had a hot dog before we went home for bath time and and teeth. After his bedtime squash he watched some iPad to help him think about nice and fun things before going to sleep.

Goosebumps

General

Elliott was very good today.

Activities

After I picked him up we went to Sainsburys in Winnersh on the way home where he had a bit extra for breakfast and we also chose an England top each for the European Championships 2016. Then we headed home for an hour or so before heading out to Kids Club cinema at the Odeon in Bracknell for Goosebumps. The film was really good and based around the author of the books and all his creations coming to life. He found it a bit scary at times but was glad he'd stayed to watch it all at the end. After the film we went to Pizza Hut next door for a buffet lunch.

After lunch we had a quick look around the shops before heading to Toys R Us in Reading to look at Doctor Who toys. When we got to Toys R Us we discovered that Optimus Prime was there in the car park:

After a long time deciding Elliott decided to buy a Doctor Who scene play set to go with his figures and a reduced 2016 Doctor Who annual. Then we headed home. When we got home we built the play set together and he read his annual before we had bacon sandwiches for tea. After tea he had a bath, brushed his teeth and then read more of his Doctor Who annual. At bed time he seemed fine as I was wondering if the film might play on his mind, but he didn't seem worried at all and went to sleep quickly.
