Hollie Webb

General

Elliott was mainly good today. He did get a bit upset when he was doing his homework as I asked him not to rush it (he was getting things wrong because he was rushing) and that led to a discussion about how taking longer to get it right first time saves time in the end.

Activities

In the morning we got up early to go the hockey training session with Hollie Webb. Everyone was split in to 3 groups and Elliott was in the middle group with some of the really good Under 10s and some Under 12s. For the first session they practiced defence against attack with one of the coachs, then it was his groups turn to be coached by Hollie Webb and she showed them how to use a reverse hook, take penalty flicks and penalty shuffles. She also shoed them her gold medal and she signed Elliott's hockey stick:

After the session with Hollie Webb they then had a session of a game where dribbling the ball in to the end zone was a goal. He ran around a lot and did some great defending. After hockey we went home and he did his Maths homework (estimating sums by rounding numbers up to the closest 10 before then doing the sum properly to see what the real answer was). He began by rushing through the sums and not concentrating to get it over with, so we had a chat about not rushing and focusing and he got a bit upset. I explained to him I was only saying that because I knew he could do the sums and if I thought they were too hard for him I wouldn't be challenging him to take longer. However after he'd had a break and went back to the sums he spent longer and did them really well. After his homework we had ham and cheese rolls for lunch.

After lunch he practiced his Clarinet and played lots of songs to me and then we went to Hurst to The Elephant and Castle pub where we met up with John Robertson and some of his friends. There were lots of children there and Elliott quickly made friends and played in the garden. He also bought his big Thunderbird 2 with him which was a hit. After we'd been in the pub for a while we headed home and he watched some Doctor Who on his iPad before having mild curry for tea. After tea he had his bath, bed time squash, brushed his teeth and read some of his Rogue One book before going to sleep.
