Thunderbirds

General

Elliott was good after school.

Activities

We went straight to swimming after school and got changed in a new mens changing room where Elliott had a shower after swimming. After we got home Elliott watched Thunderbirds and then played Thunderbirds in his room. He had ham and cheese on toast for tea before he read his school book "Spaceship Graveyard" and then it was bed time.

Athletics

General

Elliott was really good after school.

Activities

He seemed to have enjoyed athletics when I picked him up. He said he'd done lots of racing. After the athletics we went to ASDA for tea before football training. They had 2 pitches in football training and on Elliott's pitch there were 2 5 a-side teams who just played a game. The only other panther in Elliott's team was Olly and Elliott played really well. He played in goal for a while but for most of the game he played on the pitch and he played really well, even taking a disguised free kick at one point (deliberately kicking it the other way to the way he was looking and it went straight to the player he was aiming for). After we got home he had a quick bath before bed time.

Cheese moon

General

Elliott mostly had a good day. In the afternoon when we were at Andrea's parents house he did get upset while we were outside playing in the garden with Harry Jenkins. They were racing each other and he got upset that he hadn't won a race and that Harry had been cheating and also a little later that Harry wouldn't race him again. The upset seemed disproportionate considering it was all meant to be a bit of fun so I comforted him but also tried to help him see that he didn't need to be quite so upset.

Activities

In the morning we had a lazy time and he watched some episodes of "Penguins of Madagascar", played Minecraft on the iPad and played with Hulk Buster and Captain America. He also did his homework which was to complete sentences about space (for example "The moon is made of" to which he wrote "cheese and dust") and choose which words best described mathematical symbols (e.g. "minus", "subtract", "add", etc). We had Roast Chicken for lunch and he ate all his lunch including some broccoli.

After lunch he cycled (with us) over to Andrea's Mum and Dad's house where we saw Harry and Jack and had lots of fun playing in the garden (apart from when he got upset about the racing). He also brought his roller skates and practiced roller skating in the garden. After we got home it was time for tea and bath before he read the first part of his school book "Swamp Crash".

Yash's party

General

Elliott was really good today. He was a bit hyper after Yash's party but that wasn't a surprise.

Activities

Elliott really enjoyed football today. Afterwards he told me he liked it because he was able to give "more pressure" now the team was different and that he liked playing up front. He also said he liked it better as there was less shouting from the parents. So that's really good and hopefully it'll stay that way. After the football I dropped him off at Wokingham Superbowl for Yash's party where he had chicken nuggets, chips and beans for lunch. The party was a laser quest one and it sounds like he'd had a lot of fun.

After I picked him up from the party we went to Pope's Meadow in Binfield where he practiced roller skating in the car park, we played badminton and we played with the catching set. After all that we went back to Wokingham Superbowl as he'd come out of the party with some discount vouchers for bowling. We used the vouchers and had 2 games of bowling and he did really well again, beating me in one game when I was trying. After we got home he had toast and honey for tea before bath time, and some more reading of the Horrible Histories "Rotten Rulers" book together.

Horrible Histories

General

Elliott was really good after school and had fish and chips for lunch.

Activities

After school we went to the "little park" for a while and he played with Charlie and Adam. Then we popped in to ASDA for some shopping and he had the children's pack for tea in the cafe. After we got home Elliott played with Transformers for a while before bath time. After his bath we read his Horrible Histories "Rotten Rulers" book together which he said was a present from his holiday and he seemed quite interested in it (especially as Mrs Davies had told him he should read it with me).

Thunderbirds

General

Elliott was good after school. He did get tearful at one stage after swimming because he didn't want to come in to the shop with me to pick up some quick shopping on the way home. I think this was tiredness as much as anything else. He had a jacket potato with cheese for lunch.

Activities

After school it was back to swimming lessons and Elliott seemed to enjoy it and also seemed to be stronger at swimming after his holiday swimming. After swimming we popped in to Sainsburys Local on the way home and then it was toast for tea. After tea and before bath we watched Thunderbirds and had a look at his NSPCC sponsorship form which he got in their NSPCC assembly today (it'll be in his book bag tomorrow, needs signing in one place I think and looks like they'll be doing some sporty activities for sponsorship to raise some money). Then it was time for his bath before he read a chapter of his school book "Fear Forest". Before bed we played with some Lego Thunderbirds rockets he'd built and talked about the crashed rocket at his school (apparently he doesn't think it was aliens because he could see wires like humans use and parts of it were blowing around the fields today).

Roller-skating

General

Elliott was really good today.

Activities

On our way home after collecting him we nipped in to The Peel Centre in Braknell where we bought a Badminton set and a velcro catching set. After we got home Elliott practiced riding his bike, then we practiced Badminton, then he practiced roller-skating and finally we played with the velcro catch set. His roller- skating went well and after a while he was skating without me holding on to him. He went very slowly and carefully and was getting used to how it worked and his balance. He did fall over a few times but in a very controlled way and he practiced getting back up with his skates still on without any help. After all our outdoor activity we went in for a late lunch of honey toast.

After lunch he played with his toys and spent about an hour playing Minecraft on the iPad. We also talked about his pocket money and whether he can always have the things he wants (he was very good in The Peel Centre and just looked at the toys in Tescos). After I read something about it I asked if he was ok to save some of his pocket money every week, spend some of it if he wants to and save a little bit more each week for charity and he was receptive to the idea so we set up a jar for putting in the money for charity every week, his piggy bank for saving and his Batman wallet for the money he can spend now We're going to split it £2 for saving, £2.50 for spending and 50pm for charity. Then we went back out for more roller-skating practice with Andrea who used to roller-skate and he took things steadily again but grew in confidence. After roller-skating we had Chicken Fajitas for tea and watched Pocahontus before bath time and bed.

Tea with the Sladens

General

Elliott was really good today.

Activities

After breakfast we went to the skate park in the recreation ground up the road from Grannys and Elliott had a lot of fun scootering and this time wasn't interrupted. He also spent some time playing on the swings, roundabout and bouncy motorbike in the park. Then we went home and he played Minecraft before we had chicken for lunch (he had bread with his as he didn't want rice), and half an Easter egg for pudding again.

After lunch we went to the Cathedral where they were putting on free activities based around Otto the scribe - a fictional medieval writer involved in drafting the Magna Carta. During this he made an Easter card and we followed a trail of clues around the Cathedral where Otto had left some of his equipment behind:

Then we went for coffee at Costa Coffee in town before going to Smyths toy superstore and Sports Direct (where we bought some goalkeepers gloves with some Easter money he was given). Then we headed to the Sladens for tea, which was hot dogs and chips and he eat all his tea:

He also played football in the garden with Charlie and Poppy Sladen and had a really good time testing out his goalkeeper gloves. He was really using his skills and having fun:

Then it was home for a quick bath and bed time.

Cheetah poster

General

Elliott had a good day today. The only time he got a little upset was at the end of the afternoon when we were at a local skate park and he had to leave earlier than he wanted to as bigger boys took over the apparatus. However we found an alleyway to scooter up and down instead and he soon cheered up and did time trials.

Activities

After breakfast we finished filming his Minecraft film and in two further parts. In the first part he showed everyone his Batcave:

In the final part he blew up a huge tower of TNT which caused a big crater:

After we'd got dressed we headed to Outburst in Salisbury for bowling and soft play. He did really well at bowling and was really enjoying it:

He enjoyed running around in soft play as well. Then we headed for Tescos and bought a new cycle helmet as he's growing out of his old one and went back to the skate park opposite the college where we met Granny. The skate park was really quiet so he had lots of fun scootering around and was getting quite confident and scootering down slopes:

Then we headed home for a late lunch of spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread which he ate really well in a plainer version and then had half an easter egg for pudding.

After lunch we had a rest watching some Spongebob Squarepants and then he did his home learning, which was to talk about his favourite animal, find out some facts about it and make a poster. He chose the cheetah because it's the fastest animal and he looked for facts with me and then made a really good poster. After he'd made his poster we headed up the road to the local park in Downton which now has a mini skate park and he did some more scootering until some bigger boys arrived with skate boards and we had to leave due to lack of space. He was a bit upset at first but then we found an alleyway on a slope and he rode up and down with me timing laps to see if he could beat his times. Finally it was back home for ham and cheese on toast for tea, bath time and then some iPad before bed as he'd already done some reading earlier when he was investigating Cheetahs.

Easter egg hunt in The Moot

General

Elliott was really good today and there were no problems at all.

Activities

After breakfast we started the day by going for a short run together which was good fun. After our run we went next door to The Moot Gardens as there was another Easter egg being held there. This was popular and there were lots of children looking for eggs. Elliott found 3 eggs in the end but also had a lot of fun running around and exploring The Moot, including running up and down the hill where people sit to watch plays / performances:

After the Easter egg hunt we went back to Grannys for lunch which was chicken fajitas and he eat his lunch really well. He also had some chocolate egg for pudding.

After lunch we went to Bournemouth beach (Alum Chine) with Granny as it was such a nice day. We went paddling on the beach and made a big hole with sand castles around it and did a lot of running around playing in the sand:

Then we had a drink before going to the playground by the beach where Elliott was really good at crossing the monkey bars:

Finally we went for a walk up and down the beach with Elliott scootering along next to us. After we got home he had a ham and cheese toastie for tea before we filmed a 10 minute Minecraft video in which Elliott showed people how to kill "sheeps" and then showed everyone around his house and all the rooms in it before taking everyone to a big tower of TNT he had built:

We're going to film a part 2 to the video tomorrow. After the filming he had his bath before reading more of his current Jack Stalwart book and bed time.

Easter egg hunt in the Cathedral

General

Elliott was mostly good today. During our roast meal he started to take a long time to eat his food, especially his broccoli but in the end he did eat it all and he had eaten a fair amount of chocolate a few hours before so it wasn't totally surprising.

Activities

After breakfast we went to the Cathedral with Granny for the Easter Day service. During the service the children went to the cloisters for an Easter egg hunt which he enjoyed and lasted for most of the service which worked well. He particularly enjoyed eating the little eggs he found:

After the service we went home and he opened his Easter eggs, one of which was a big Kinder Surprise egg that had a Batman toy in it. He ate half the egg and enjoyed playing with the toy. Then we watched Spy Kids 2 before having a late-ish roast for lunch. It was Lamb and he did eat the meat, potatoes and some broccoli in the end. Followed by the other half of his Kinder Surprise egg for pudding.

After lunch we had a lazy time playing with toys including a remote control jeep. Then Andrea left to go home and we had toast with honey for tea before bath time. After bath he read his current Jack Stalwart book with me and then watched some Minecraft School on the iPad before bed time.

Skate park with Harry Higgins

General

Elliott was really good today and responded well after last night so we did see Harry Higgins after lunch.

Activities

In the morning we had a lazy time and watched the Avengers cartoon on CITV and played with toys. For lunch we had homemade spaghetti and pork meatballs and Elliott helped make the meatballs by rolling balls of pork mince mixed with egg and breadcrumbs in flour and curry powder. He ate all of his lunch really well.

After lunch we went to the skate park opposite Salisbury college and met up with Matt, Lara, Harry and Bertie Higgins with our scooter and a football. The boys played football on a multi purpose playground to begin with and made friends with some other children who joined in - Jack and Sam. Then Elliott scootered around some of the lower skate park equipment while Harry rode his bike around the equipment:

Then we all moved to more traditional play equipment for a while before we went back to the skate park area. After a few hours it was time to go home and everyone had a lot of fun. After we got home Elliott watched the new Thunderbirds show and had toast with honey for tea. Then it was bath time followed by watching some Ant and Dec and reading some of his Minecraft book before bed time.

The Magna Carta

General

Elliott was very good today until tea time. Tea was fish fingers, chips and peas and for some reason he decided he didn't like fish fingers or chips on top of peas already being an issue. In the end he ate most of his fish fingers and a few peas but there was a lot of play acting, sulking and general silliness to get to that point and it took a long time. I also had to tell him we wouldn't be seeing Harry Higgins tomorrow unless he ate more when I knew he liked what was on his plate. Afterwards we had a chat about how doing things that he doesn't feel like doing quickly helps and we used the example of homework as well. We also talked about him earning back seeing Harry Higgins by being really good for the rest of tonight and tomorrow morning, which has started well.

Activities

In the morning we went to Salisbury Odeon for a kid's club showing of Big Hero 6. He really enjoyed watching the film again and I also really enjoyed it. After the film he had his hair cut (and was really good and still) and then we met Granny for lunch in Costa Coffee - we all had ham and cheese toasties.

After lunch Andrea met us and we went shopping for his new school shoes at Clarks, where again he was really good and helped the lady out who was fitting his shoes. Then we went to the Cathedral to look at the new Magna Carta exhibition. We didn't think he'd be that interested, but actually he was found some of the display really interesting, particularly the bit about feather quills and parchment where there were examples. There was also a part of the exhibition where people are encouraged to write on pieces of paper what changes for the better seeing the Magna Carta has inspired them to think about and he wrote quite a long idea about cars being able to fly to help make traffic better. His writing was really good and we left it on display with all the other ideas:

Next we headed home for tea and hot cross buns and then he played with his cars for a bit and watched a few Mr Men episodes. Then he had tea which wasn't great before bath time which cheered him up. Before bed he read some of his latest Jack Stalwart book with me.

Easter bunny

General

Elliott was really excited after school today and liked the Easter bunny in his book bag.

Activities

After school we drove straight down to Granny and Grandpa's house and Elliott played Minecraft during the journey. After we arrived we unpacked and then played with my old star guards and aliens toys. He had ham and cheese sandwiches for tea and after tea he had his bath. After his bath he read Granny one of his school books (he is on white and gold bands now) and then it was bed time.
