Stampy Cat

General

Elliott was good after school today. He had won some Cadburys Buttons in a gymnastic competition and so he was in good spirits. He did get a bit grouchy after tea but I think this was the heat and he cheered up after having some quiet time in his room.

Activities

We went swimming after school and after the lesson this week he decided to try a white chocolate Magnum. He eat a decent amount but couldn't finish it. Then he had some toast for tea and after tea he watched some Stampy Cat explaining Minecraft on the iPad before doing his homework (which was to separate words that make 2 words like "goldfish", and to make smaller words out of "caterpillar", which he made 10 words from). Then he got changed into pyjamas for bed and he did lots of reading of his school book "Small Bad Wolf", which he finished, and his new school book "Algy's Amazing Adventures in the Arctic", which he started and is quite long. The he got into bed and I read him another chapter of his Jack Stalwart book.

Dinton Pastures

General

Elliott was really good today.

Activities

After he arrived in the morning we played with GoGos and then headed off to MacDonalds for lunch on the way to Dinton Pastures with his bike.

When we got Dinton we found out that his bike had a puncture in the back tyre so we went to Halfords to get it fixed before coming back to Dinton again. With the repaired bike Elliott went for quite a long bike ride before spending lots of time playing in the play park on the equipment as well, including some quite high monkey bars that he mastered:

After Dinton Pastures we headed home and then to a friend's house just around the corner for a barbeque. There were other children there including Joshua who is Elliott's age who he'd met once before. They played football and cricket together in the garden with various Dads joining in and got on really well. After he'd had a burger, hot dog and some potato wedges he and Joshua swapped Minecraft tips and showed each other their Minecraft creations on the phones, before then messing around together for a while longer. Then we headed home and, as it was already bed time, he agreed to have his bath in the morning and went straight to bed.

Ice lolly

General

Elliott was good after school today. Also in his book bag there was a letter inviting him to sing at Addington School on the morning of Friday 17th July in the "all at sea" music event. The letter said only 28 people from Hawkedon had been invited and he was invited because of his enthusiasm and contribution during music lessons.

Activities

After school it was straight to swimming and after swimming this week he had an orange ice lolly as a treat as he's practicing eating ice lollies (and getting quite good at it). We popped in Waitrose on the way home to pick up and order and then after we got home he played with Star Wars toys and watched Thunderbirds Are Go. After toast for tea he changed into his pyjamas, read some of his new school book "Star Crazy" and I read him another chapter of his Jack Stalwart book.

Football training in the garden

General

Elliott was really good after school today and it sounded like he'd had a good day with his friends in the end. He also said that he and Harry Smith had controlled the weather and decided it should be sunny in the end. He seemed less tired today and stayed asleep this morning until I woke him up at 7.10am.

Activities

Pick up was earlier than expected as athletics was cancelled following the rain. This was a shame as the weather was nice by the time school finished and Elliott wanted to do athletics. After we got home we watched some Wallace and Grommit before Elliott did his homework for this week. This was adding -ing to the end of words and deciding whether the word just needed an -ing, or whether an e should be deleted first (e.g. "hoping") or whether the last letter needed doubling (e.g. "winning"). He did pretty well with this, although I did help him a bit. After his homework he had some toast for tea and then we went out to the flat's garden and did some football training of our own to make up for having a break from Woodley Wanderer football training. We practiced using left foot and goalkeeping and he did really well. After football training we had a leisurely bath and then he read his school book "Trouble in the Rockies", before I read him another chapter of his Jack Stalwart book while he was in bed.

Roast chicken

General

Elliott was a little up and down today but this wasn't surprising given that he was tired from the sleepover.

Activities

In the morning I picked him from Charlie's house at about 10am and Natalie said he'd been good. She said there had been one incident where he'd got quite upset which happened because they were all bouncing up and down on an air mattress together and Elliott got knocked accidentally. It sounded like he'd had a good time and he came home with some new GoGos, however he was a little tired. We had a lazy rest of the morning watching television and playing with his new GoGos before we had sandwiches for lunch.

After lunch we had a lazy afternoon and then went to Andrea's Mum and Dad's house for a roast chicken meal for tea which he had some broccoli with. During the afternoon he got quite upset twice about small things (not having time to ride his bike and not having time to play on the phone), which I think was his tiredness magnifying the emotions. After the roast meal we came home and he had a quick bath before going to bed and hopefully getting a good nights sleep ahead of school tomorrow.

Summer League football tournament

General

Elliott was good today.

Activities

In the morning it was the summer league football tournament at Goals. I thought he played really well when he did play and considering how much waiting around between games there was he was really well behaved. It's a shame there wasn't a bit more football for him to play as he didn't play anything more than a normal Saturday match, just stretched across 4 hours. After the football we headed home for a quick lunch of wraps and packing for the sleepover at Charlie's house.

After lunch we headed off to Charlie's house for the party and he was in very good spirits when I dropped him off with a change of clothes, nightwear, teddies, a sleeping bag and a toothbrush.

The Secret World of Lego

General

Elliott was good after school today. However when I picked him up he was upset after another GoGo incident where Isaac found one of his GoGos in the playground and wouldn't give it back. Unfortunately a sad looking Isaac had lost his GoGo bag and all his GoGos after school so we couldn't sort out the problem and Elliott was quite upset as it was his favourite GoGo. As he calmed down we had a chat about trying to keep GoGos in perspective and that they were meant to for fun not upset and he was really responsive and after cheering up hasn't let it rankle at all.

Activities

After school we went to Tescos to buy a card and present for Charlie's party tomorrow and then home for some toast. After tea we watched "The Secret World of Lego" together while Elliott also played with some Lego. Then it was bath time and before bed time he read some of his school book "Trouble in the Rockies".

Exercises

General

Elliott was pretty good after school today although he did try and draw out bed time for quite a long time. I ended up having to tell him off to try and motivate him and he got quite upset, but after he calmed down we talked about why taking a long time to get ready for bed isn't a good thing for the sleep he need. He also said he'd found maths hard again today but we talked about trying his best and practicing and he also pointed out himself that he finds literacy much easier than lots of his friends who find maths easier than him.

Activities

After school we went straight to swimming and he said he enjoyed himself. After we got home we had lots of different kinds of GoGo battles. Then he helped me do some exercises and we had tea. He didn't need a bath as he had a shower after swimming so then he read some of his school books and then when I asked him to put his pyjamas on he started taking a long time to take toys back in to his room, etc. After everything had calmed down I read him another chapter from his latest Jack Stalwart book and then it was time for bed.

Roller skating

General

Elliott was really good today.

Activities

In the morning we went to football and although he told me in the car he didn't want to play in defence because it was boring I thought he played really well in defence in the first half. He seemed worried in the car that if they asked him to play there he'd have forgotten what to do so I was quite glad he did play there for a while as afterwards we could talk about how things don't get forgotten once they've been learned. He was good in the second half too I thought and I thought all the Panthers played really well. After we got home we had hamburgers for lunch and Elliott had some Magnum ice cream for pudding as he told me he now likes ice cream. He didn't finish all of the ice cream but he did enjoy what he had.

After lunch we had a lazy afternoon and he played some Minecraft on the iPad and played with lots of toys. We also went out to practice roller skating and he was a bit more confident skating again. We had bagels for tea and then after bath time he read some of his school book "Riding the Waves" before watching a Thunderbirds Are Go and then finally I read him another chapter of the current Jack Stalwart book before it was time for bed.

Jam tarts

General

Elliott was really good after school today. He'd had fish and chips for lunch. Unfortunately he had lost his Spiderman cap but seemed confident it would be in lost property on Monday.

Activities

He had made two jam tarts at school which looked very nice and we ate them on the way home (they also tasted very nice). On our way home we popped in to Tescos to pick up a few bits and pieces and Elliott had a ham and cheese toastie for tea. After we got home he played with Lego before doing some reading and then bath time. After his bath he watched some iPad and I read him another chapter of his Jack Stalwart book.

Underwater somersault

General

I think Elliott was quite tired after yesterday as he didn't wake up before 7am and I had to wake him up. After school he was a little upset when I first collected him as he'd lost a gold GoGo in the playground at lunch time while playing. He didn't get as upset as he can get and calmed down quite quickly though. After that he was a bit restless after swimming, but we had a chat about behaving better and I linked it to Mrs Davies talking to me about his gang being a bit silly during athletics and he was really well behaved afterwards. I told him that I wasn't cross or angry but I wanted him to try harder to be well behaved at school even when it was boring and he was waiting around to do things. We also talked about how if his friends in the gang are being silly he doesn't have to join in. He had sweet chicken for lunch.

Activities

He enjoyed his swimming lesson straight after school as there was lots of swimming on his front which he says he prefers, and during free time at the end he did an underwater somersault without any water going up his nose. After swimming we came home and he watched some Thunderbirds before we raced against each other on Sonic racing again. He had toast for tea before then reading his school books to himself. Then we had one more race before it was time for bed.

Sonic racing

General

Elliott was good after school today. However when I picked him up from athletics he told me athletics next week was cancelled. So I went to confirm with the man who runs it and he said it was on, but he was going to have a chat with Mr O'Shea because all the children had been misbehaving and being silly at today's session, instead of enjoying trying long jump. He seemed quite annoyed. I did ask Elliott and he said he'd talked to Harry in the queue for the jump and they'd all played some of their break time games. So we had a chat about when to play and when not to. Hopefully all will be better at next week's session.

Activities

After I picked him up we went to ASDA for tea where Elliott had ham sandwiches and some children's crisps. Then it was off to football training where they played running games which Elliott did really well in, before having a game. He did well in the game but there were quite a lot of them per side so it was a bit crowded. After football it was home for a quick bath and then bed time after a head to head race on Sonic racing - he used the iPad and I used the iPhone.

Woodley Wanderers Under 8s award ceremony

General

Elliott was really good today.

Activities

After I picked him up we went back and I gave him some presents from the holiday (a Montengran ship in a bottle and a Spiderman cap) which he seemed to like. Then I asked him to do his homework and he got on with it without making any fuss which was brilliant (it was finding alternative words for nouns, verbs and adjectives and identifying which words in a passage are nouns, verbs and adjectives). After finishing his homework he had a GoGo battle with Andrea using all of his GoGos so it went on for quite a while. Then it was time for an early lunch of honey sandwiches before the Woodley Wanderers Under 8s award ceremony.

After lunch we headed to the Madejski Stadium for the awards which I thought were really good. I also thought the conference suite at the Stadium was a really good venue. And it was good to see the boys get together to celebrate the season. I thought what Jackdip said about their spirit and focus on enjoying playing and having fun was very fitting and it was refreshing to hear him say he thought that was a good thing at their age:

It was also really nice of Jackdip to say Elliott had come second for both most improved player in Panthers and Manager's player of the season for Panthers and that he was glad the summer season was going so well for him. I thought Javier and Harry were both good choices for each Award. Afterwards Elliott seemed very happy with his club trophy for being part of the team anyway. On the way home we popped in to Smyths toy shop and bought toy spy night vision binoculars with his pocket money. After we got home we played some more GoGos before taking Andrea to Wokingham train station as she headed off to meet up with her family in Italy. Then we had pasta with a tomato and ham sauce for tea before bath time. After his bath we talked about money for this week's home learning, including making a list of items that cost a pound. Finally he read some of his school book "Titanic Survivor" before I read him some of his latest Jack Stalwart book and then it was bed time.
